I have two german shepherds, one 4 year old female and I recently purchased a puppy. He is now 13 weeks and is on Innova Large Breed Puppy. I feed my adult dog raw (BARF model) and wanted to do that with the pup as well, but honestly I am nervous about the switch. My older dog looks great, I have been doing the raw about 1.5 years. Everyone has told me that it is the same feeding a puppy, any opinions? I am just worried about protein content, etc and having him have growth issues. Thanks for the input!!

I found some really good informaiton and menu's on how to feed a puppy raw from 0-15 months I believe it was on VonLotta GSD website. I am sorry I don't have the link but if you search Von Lotta it will pop up and you can read their menu and recipe's for puppies. I feel an excellent source; also Jane Anderson's PWD's are fed raw from day l and I believe she may have some info on her web also. Best of luck Nan

I have raised several litters on raw alone, and brought up all my own on raw alone. My latest is a 2.7lb Chihuahua pup. He's the first one I've ever fed a pre-made.
Raw fed pups grow slowly and steadily- make sure you feed the proper ratio of meat/organ/bone, lots of tripe (almost PERFECT calcium/phosphorus ratio) and you'll be fine. There really is no trick to it, as long as you are educated enough to be feeding raw in the first place.
Could you tell us what you feed your adult? Give a sample menu for the adult and I'll help you tailor it to the pup.

Thanks for all the input!
Here is my sample menu for my other dog. I know there is debate over BARF vs. Prey model, but I guess I do such a small amount of vegetables/fruit, I didnt think it would hurt.
So for example I give her something like this for a couple days
1- 1 chicken quarter
beef liver
giblets
or
2.
pork hock or pork feet
some ground beef
kidney and chicken liver
or
3. turkey (I buy a whole turkey and cut it up, so misc. parts)
some pork (i get pork chops when they are on sale)
tripe
or
4. canned Jack Mackerl/sardines
cottage cheese/yogurt
chicken quarter
etc.
There is no set schedule to what I have above, it changes based on what I have, what was on sale, etc. I will usually buy something, say pork and feed a mix with that until I run out of pork, then switch to chicken. etc.
A couple times a week I add garlic, vitamin c, and a mix with kelp, salmon oil, and vit e, She gets the veggie mix almost everyday (like a spoonful). I blend the mix with egg and shell also ( apple cider vinegar too). fast one day a week (which I know you cant do with a pup) and give marrow bones every once in a while. Also if we are eating something she can eat and we have leftovers, she gets that- for instance extra spagetti sauce or a bagel, but these never really account for a large percentage of the diet.
Thanks!!

WOW! GREEN TRIPE,RAW CHICKEN,CUT UP RAW TURKEY,SARDINES,GIBLETS.....I THINK I'LL JUST HAVE A LITTLE LEFTOVER SPAGHETTI,THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!...LOL SERIOUSLY, I RESPECT YOUR OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU FEED YOUR DOGS AS THEY ARE ALL GORGEOUS ANIMALS. GREAT STRUCTURE, BEAUTIFUL COATS, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS. BUT I HAVE TO SAY...''I'M GLAD I'M NOT HAVING TRIPE FOR DINNER TONIGHT(OR ANY OTHER NIGHT)!!! LOL!!

It sounds like a ton of different things and like it would be hard, but I feed that over a long period of time. Its really very very easy. It takes like 10 minutes to cut up a turkey and it lasts for a couple weeks for instance. That is the only thing I cut, everything else is pretty much as is. There was a huge difference after I started feeding raw, its really amazing. It takes literally like 2 minutes to get her food ready at night.

That looks really good assuming your proportions are correct. You should be fine!
I would be careful w/tomatoes though.
