I'm not worried about it, I'm just asking what people think.
Today while Bella, 6 mos., and Ana, 22 mos. were going at it wrestlling and play fighting I noticed that Bella at times when she had the advantage that she would start to "hump" Ana. At this age is it just her hormones/puberty kicking in or is she really attempting dominance already. Some of the mental aspects I don't get into but was just curious. And like I said, I'm not that worried about it but was just inquiring.
I've always had dogs but at this point in life I have three with two being females.

Some do it more than others. My female in my avatar produces that time and time again; people are shocked at how dominant her female pups are. Her granddaughters have been the same way. Some go into a multi-dog household and are alpha right off the bat. Just dominance, testing the water, etc. I wouldn't think much of it other than to take a mental note and watch out for an escalation of it in the future that could start a real fight. Personally, after about 4-5mos., I don't keep young females w/older ones in most circumstances.

Thanks, now when you say you don't keep young females w/older ones in most circumsatnces, are you saying you're not keeping them in the same "space" or you don't keep any young females period. Only girls are your breeders? Looked at your website, nice dogs.

Usually if a six month old is humping in play, that is play dominance - practicing dominant behaviours in a non-threatening situation - just like little kids playing house - play-acting grown-up roles.

My female started that at 4.5 months. While playing she would get bigger dog on the ground and go to town on him. Your pups just stating that shes the boss.
I think Jenni78 is saying she has younger females but does not keep young pups in the same space with her older females. Has potential to be bad situation when a young female tries to dominate an older very dominate female.
