My husband is very interested in getting a German Shepherd. He had one that he had bought back in the early 70's when he was in the Air Force. Hans lived until he was a little over 13 yrs old. He was from CH parents with an excellent working pedigree. Is there anywhere I can go that will explain the abbreviations for the titles like the ones that are SchH1, SchH2, V, FH, etc? I know the abbreviations for the titles in the United States but I have no idea what the abbreviations for the foreign titles mean. Thank you for any help you can give me. SchH1, SchH2, and SchH3 are Schutzhund titles. In German, Schutzhund means "Protection Dog". Its bascially a German Shepherd breed test, that proves the dogs ability in Tracking, Obedience, and Protection. Each title increases with difficulty. FH is an advanced tracking title, FH2 is the highest tracking title you can recieve. The show ratings are as follows(Im sure Im gonna leave few out, but this is off the top of my head): VA(Excellent show rating at a Sieger Show)-The highest show rating you can recieve. The dog must have at least a SchH2 title V(Excellent)-Dog must have a SchH1 title VH(Sufficent) SG(Very Good)-The rating highest you can get without a SchH title G(Good) U(Unsatisfactory) Below are puppy show ratings: VP(Very Promising) P(Promising) LP(Less Promising) When you see KKL1 or KKL2 it means the dog has been Koerklassed. KKL1 - A dog that is recommend for breeding or KKL2 - A dog that is suitable for breeding. "a1" and "a2" are hip ratings. "a1" is normal and "a2" is fast normal. There are alot of other Miscellaneous titles but what I stated above are the bascis which you need to know before "shopping" for a new shepherd pup. I cant think of anything else off the top of my head, but if I left something out Ill come back later and finish it up. Hope this helps Andrea
