Pedigree help inbreed? - Page 1

Hello,
Can anyone give me a pedigree evaluation or oversight on this gsd pup?
Is this lil guy a huge mistake? Breeder said he purposely mated to enhance and acheive quality and characteristics. Parents seem solid and healthy,with great temperament as well as the pup. Any advice? Feedback greatly appreciated! Does this seem totally tabboo,abnormal,unethical,health risk,etc?has any readers mated or bred similar?please share..Thank you!

I’m curious what qualities and characteristics is the breeder claiming influenced his/her decision to do this breeding?

I’m guessing this is not a high dollar pup due to the uncommon inbreeding (in modern GSDs anyhow). Not the pup’s fault he’s bred this way; he’ll still need a good home regardless.

There are a few other holes in the close pedigree as well: like hips, titles, work etc.. Only dog I've seen in person is back in the 5th gen, Pardal.

But if you like what you see in the parents, and are satisfied with Fritz’s health, character and soundness - as can be reasonably determined at 4 months old - make an offer.

Sounds good thank you GK1! He bred for Very mild mannered,good temperament,loyal but non-aggressive with humans and farm animals. Not for champion or show. I guess a working companion,ranch dog from what it sounds if that makes sense? He does bark when he senses a threat.

Hmmm ... may mean nothing of course & I don't know any of these dogs in the pedigree ... but I have to ask:
If we are talking breeding for such quiet temperament, why are both Lola and Capitan photographed behind kennel wire ???

Pro: if you click on the mother's pedigree, she has absolutely NO line-breeding in her pedigree, going back SEVEN generations.

Con: there is a lot of what I'd consider backyard breeding in this pedigree that makes me wonder if the breeder is telling the truth about this being a deliberate breeding and not an 'oops' litter. The pictures of many of the dogs are very unprofessionally done, and many of the dogs in the mother's pedigree aren't titled or x-rayed, and I've never heard of most of the kennels.

Personally, I'd steer clear, but in the end, it's your decision.

Due to the lack of close inbreeding in any of the pedigrees except for what happened with the mother, I wouldn't be too worried about genetic issues. I just think the pedigree shows the breeder(s) did not know what they were doing, other than breeding pets.

i see alot of dogs i have heard of. Most are the same type dog. I don t see a big problem in the mother , yes, same dog once but other then that . Maybe the breeder likes what that dog brings with it and figured it was worth doubling up on that dog.Maybe itsa repeat breeding and they know what they are getting. When you selling to the average german shepherd buyer, most don t know or give a crap what the pedigree says anyway. If they are not looking to be breeding, i imagine that would be a very nice puppy. It looks to me like one or two people bought a couple dogs from good lines and then deceided to breed them. i certainly don t see a whole lot of back yard breeding.
its always been my view that a lack of title don t make a dog lesser of a dog. I myself have had three of my pups go on to successful positions in police k9 work and more then a couple get into sports with their people. No one expecting podium placements, just out having fun with their dogs. And I see nothing wrong with that.

My question to this so called breeder of this litter is ARE THEY KEEPING ANYTHING OUT OF THIS BREEDING??

Good question!! That should tell you if it was an intentional breeding or a possible 'oops' litter!

It might also tell you a good deal more ... e.g. about whether they really do have 'livable with' temperaments or not.

In line with what Hundmutter posted:

Does the pup live in the house? Is he house broken (pee/poo outside only, no inappropriate chewing, indoor vs outdoor play/speeds, off, any other manners)?

Has the breeder taught him anything like sit, come, and how to walk on a leash? Anything more (stay, heel, quiet, etc.)? Good, bad, no? Bath?

Has the breeder socialized the pup at all?

Or has the pup lived in a kennel with little human contact and little to no training?

At 4 months old, at the very least I'd want the pup potty trained.
