Hello Out of curiosity. Which do you think has been the best working German Shepherd breeder in the last decade? It can be male or female.

Kennel Ja Na Ka (breeder Jan Chudy) seems to be a somewhat newer kennel and has successful progeny in IGP.

I think Eqidius used to do better

His record speaks for itself. The number of V and VA dogs they produce.
Bad-Boll (RIP), Holtkamper-Hof and D'Ulmental would be in the mix.
Overall, I doubt anyone can touch Karl Füller (RIP) of von,Kirschental. 8 sheepherding world championships and one World Champion (Eiko) is a high bar. Also, those who have owned Kirschental dogs often want to buy another Kirschental dog.
But the deffinition of "best" is elusive. Is it in the numbers of good competition dogs that place well, or the # of champions? Without hard data to back up one's choice, it becomes an argument over taste. Quality = consistency in the product.

With regard to showlines, some breeders had more success with females, some with males, a few with both.

Kloss, don't forget the US tends to see much more of a split between Working and Show kennels than the Germans do ! :-)

Reinhard Meyer, to his credit, created a special category for the dogs who did the best bitework at the Sieger Show and working lines dogs were honored but this was just really a sop to the working lines crowd. No, the split is very real there as well.

the one, who did produce a podium dog absolutely doesn't mean all the dogs from his/her kennel are equally good and that even best one from podium can be taken direct to field or street for real life work.
someone mentioned split onto show and work. i guess former work type of GSDs also did split onto major segment of the market of pet GSDs suitable for physical active lifestyle including sport activities and small part of market which still demanding the GS dogs for practical real life utilization.
in my view the best breeder are the breeder with whom i have common view on the breed and its purpose and to whom i can trust.

Every good breeder, whether working lines or show, should have as his or her goal the improvement of the breed. First and foremost at the very least as to health and temperament. Then and only then as to genotype and phenotype.
Every GSD I ever got from my breeder lived to 13 or more and was Klar im Kopf. Good around people, protective of our family and house and able to obtain a SchH3. Schweizermesser am vier Beine, a dog which could do many things, not just one thing extremely well.
