I'd like to hear from anyone that imported a dog from Germany. My main question is why did you do so, to get a particular bloodline or do you feel your odds of getting a great dog are better there than anywhere else? What kennel/breeder did you deal with and how was the process?

Thanks,

New bloodlines that are not available here. Great way to diversify the gene pool in your area. It is always beneficial for the breed  because normally  the same breeders are always breeding to the same local dogs. I love my German import she has a phenomenal temperament that is hard to find around where I live and when I breed her I will not have to worry about any inbreeding.

They have very strong females and it shows in my girl. When I was looking for a dog I found plenty for sale with SchH 3 sires and SchH 1 Dams. But they have amazing Kkl1 and SchH 3 females. Only the best when you are paying to import!

I imported a female puppy from Schiffslache and I have no regrets.  There are no shortages of top litters over there which you can readily search on the working dog web page and the cost is slightly higher after you pay for shipping but the benefit is that you are one or two generations closer to the dog you want in your pedigree and the Germans have more resources and are more professional in the way they breed dogs.  Just my opinion.

Thanks for the help. Just wondering, how do the pups handle the flight across the Atlantic and are they sedated at all?

I imported my 8 month old bitch because of her pedigree and the dam. I brought my other 3 right here in the good ole' USA and have no regrets....The breedings were to all European males...there are just as many good German Shepherd breedings right here.

I imported to Canada! I payed $399.57 + $31.50 to customs and $65.95 to the airline. The dog cost me $4500.00.
