Hello,
It's me again I know the stock coat but wondering about coated and longhair. Now is plushcoat same as coated? And when does it become longcoat? People think my male is long coat when i purchased him sold as a coated. To me he looks plush or coated. Was wondering if someone take a peek at his pic and give opinion.I'm guessing they think he is long coat because of his hair behind his ears.Took him to work when he was 4 months old he got nickname ALF cuz of floppy ears and the hair behind earslol. Now he's 7 months old had to take him back to work to let them see Alf is not that cute little pup anymore now lets say he gets alittle respect. He's very vocal.lol Thank you
steve

Steve:
Check out my female - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/picturegallery.viewgroup?id=4053
She also has the kinky hair behind the ears and longer fur. She has been described as a long coat and plushy, but I think from definations received on this database that she is a long coat.

My male is definitely a long coat. This picture was taken last time he was groomed.

Have to keep after him with the brush otherwise he starts to look like an unkept sheepdog. The hair behind his ears, on the sides of his head and on the backs of his forelegs is quite long. His coat is also very fine and soft to the touch.

Any comments is appreciated...

I don't know the difference between plush coat, coated and longhair, but I think with plush coat you mean the stockhair with the longer coat. Coated and longhair is probably the same because you don't find the true longhair any more(it has absolutely no undercoat). All the pics of the dogs that are mentioned here are coated, the length of coat is irrelevant, it will increase when your dogs are older, if they have feathering around their ears, they are coated. bea

i have a long coated male gsd. i am a little confused by some of the definitions. depending on where you find them, the defs can be varied. my male has the long very soft and "crimped" hair behind his ears, a long and somewhat wavy coat over his shoulders and long feathering on his elbows and belly. he has a very "mutton-chop" butt; very thick and wooly underneath (a pain to comb out) and a super thick and bushy tail (it's rather impressive imho). i have seen the terms, Plush, Coated, Long coated, Long Stock coated and i dont exactly know what he is except beautiful. i have a question for those w/long coats as opposed to standard coats - are your long coated gsds a bit more mellow and less "driven" than standard?

or long stock coat

My female does not have wavy hair on her back and at one year does not have the fur between the paws that my previous long coat had - but definately has the long kinky hair behind the ears and longer fur and fluffy hain on tail and behind the legs.
