I have decided not to use the Natural Balance rolled food for tracking bait. Does anyone have a recipe for making tracking bait. I did find one with liver but my female does get loose stools if given alot. Thanks in advance Denise

Hi Denise, I have a good recipe but don't know where it is right now. Are you a member of the "black board?" If so look up "Rikka's Holiday Treats!"

When I got my girl Layla, she would actually lay on the track. I tried all kinds of stuff to use for her tracking, and she wasn't a big treat eater at all. I found satin balls, and did she turn on a dime on the track. That is the ONLY thing that she loved. Her tracking was(kid you not)the best through out the WHOLE club, when I found the satin balls. All you have to do is type in satin balls and the recipes show's up. Here it is though. 10 pounds of hamburger meat(cheapest kind) 1-Large box of oatmeal 1-jar of wheat germ 1 1/4-cup of vegetable oil 1 1/4-cup of unsulfured molasses 10 raw eggs with shells(I don't put the shells in it) 10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin and a pinch of salt. Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meat loaf, divide it up and put in freezer bags, and freeze. Thaw as needed and feed raw. It will last a long time so no worries at all. I hope this helps!!

One thing I have to point out. Especially with the dog food recall and all the talk about controlling what your dog eats and where it's from. If you buy the cheapest hamburger, you are probably buy some blended from cattle from multiple countries. Go ahead and splurge a little. Get some cheap roasts or round steak, ask the butcher at the store to grind it for you, most places will if they have any kind of on site meat area (Safeway, Alberstons, Fred Meyer, Costco, etc.) Ask your store where the meat is from, US? or elsewhere? Know what really went into your dog, at least in terms of the meat.

I will agree with animules. I was just copying what was on the recipe, and just wanted to give you an idea on worked with my Layla.

For a safe source of meat/bone I buy the dust that comes off the meat saws at a local USDA inspected meat packer. Most meat growers in our area are organic, natural, or grass based micro farmers, so there is very little chance of chemical residue. It contains several different meats and approximately 10-15% bone. The dogs prefer this tasty melange over most premium products. It is 100% human grade, and I pay $10 for 40lbs. I also use it as a part of a diverse raw/natural diet.

I can't think of the name of the product but the last pup I trained I used a lamb and rice product that came in a round long package (like jimmy dean sausage). It was easy too cut into pieces and lasted for several weeks in the fridge. Plus my pups loved it. Bought it at Petsmart.... I have tried/used different items from pieces of beef etc but liked this the best plus my pups loved it.

DR: i think you are talking about the Natural Balance chubbs. I have stopped using this product because until this whole pet food thing is cleared up I decided better to be safe than sorry. Anyway, I found something I like better. I'll post the link if I can find it.
