Is it common that breeders x-rays the offspring they have produced for HD and ED, or is this normally done just on the breedingpairs in Germany? Is it some kind of database/statistic where you can look upp how the HD/ED-prodution looks like for certian dogs or in their family?
Here in Sweden many seems to X-ray the hips and elbows in their offspring and breedingpairs, and there is also database from the kennelclub where you can look this things upp, but how is it in the rst of Europe or US?

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFFA.ORG)is the US evaluate for HD/ED and many more genetic defects. However, it is voluntary and most people don't bother to have it done unless they are breeders, confirmation show, or are having problems with their dogs. Also, if the results are not acceptable the dogs owner can keep them from being posted. The dog must be 24 months old prior to an official reading, it can be done earlier as a preliminary. Untill, and unless, all dogs are checked and results posted the data base is not all that helpful for research purposes.

OK, kinda hard to get a picture of how common HD/ED is in certian lines and planned combinations then I guess in US. But how does it work in germany?
