I am very curious to know if a breeder can detect this problem in their puppies before they are sold. After reading Blitzen's response, I am assuming that this is so. I recently got a replacement puppy, with this problem, and no guarantee was forthcoming, re; my member name!!

Perplexed, it is not always easy to find testicles on young puppies even though both are descended. Some people are better at finding them than others. Personally, I would not place a male for show or breeding unless I could feel both in the scrotum. Some say they can come down as late as a year, but I never wanted to take that chance in a show puppy. Sometimes they are there and the puppy draws them up so they can't be felt. Often it's a waiting game. How old is your puppy?

He is 4 months old. Right now, I am very frustrated with our breeder. Puppy was taken to vet for check, when we got him and he detected the problem, so I assume that the breeder also knew this.He has been in the dog business for years.

perplexed, It's my understanding as Blitzen pointed out, some pups drop early while others can take they're time. My vet and I discussed this when a showline pup we had purchased failed to descend one testical, here's how it went. When he arrived only one, about 3 months old, we waited and waited and waited, My vet reccomended we wait until 9 months at least to "make sure" the other would not descend on it's own. and while we were waiting he explained some things to me, One thing he said to "keep in mind" is that sometimes they will come down and then pop back up, so when the pup arrived with only one I was not terribly worried as he had been health checked before he was shipped to us, However when he got here he only had one, Unfortunately it stayed that way. But the moral is that they can go up and down much like ears if you have to compare to something. I hope it all works out and you have better luck than we had, it's too bad he's a gorgeous dog, But one that will never be shown and will never produce. Best of luck to you, keep us posted. And most of all do be patient, It could happen.

I'll share my experience - when I got my male pup about two years ago, I picked him up at the breeder at 8 weeks and his little numnuts were so small I couldn't tell whether they were there or not. My breeder said they were in the sack but one testicle did not descend as he grew. I kept in touch with the breeder and I had testicles covered in my guarantee. At 14 or 15 weeks the breeder said go ahead and come get your replacement. He had held back a littermate for himself and he gave me that pup. So, it's hard to tell when the pups are that young, and there's got to be a wait-and-see proposition on some level. Yvette
