Just like anything else in life. Hard work, lots of training, loads of time and dedication and a sliver of luck on top of everything else to find the right dog!
Joking aside, a big thing many people don't mention is to make sure you surround yourself with the right kind of people.

Hello,
I think the secret is, dont do it to much, but only train the details that your dog needs. Always be sure to put the best handler behind the dog even on the training sessions.

I would say being around the right people is probably one of the most important things along with your relationship with the dog and the right dog.
