I am interested in buying this dog from Europe. The person that has the dog has it listed on the Pedigree data base but I have never done this before and don't know the rules for doing so, If someone out there has some advice I could use it. How do you buy one without getting rip off? Need help. eldorado

cross your fingers! Don't dive into the pool until you know the depth. Research. This is why a lot of people either go to someone well known or they have someone do it for them. The question could be applied to cars. Do you go to Fast Eddy's or Hamilton Lincoln Mercury? Get video, lots of pics, paper, and DNA that could convict O.J.

Eldorado I'm sorry, I probably should have used a Cadillac dealer in my analogy.

Has anyone ever said "hey when I get the dog, you'll get the rest of the money"? The reason this doesn't happen, is because they don't want to get ripped off either. I just patented a business that deals in mediating dog sales. The seller will get the deposit. when you get the dog and are satisfied, we will send the seller the rest of the money. If you are unsatisfied, you must send the dog back within 48 hrs or the money will be sent to the seller and you are S.O.L. If this Business venture of mine doesn't work, call a broker.

How could you convince this guy to go along with you mediating the sale? Him being in europe he still might know who Don Corleone is.

Man! My sarcasm is wasted on this board. I didn't really patent a business.

eldorado: You research the seller as much as possible. You ask questions here and elsewhere. You take a chance. -------------------------------- Don Corleone: "Man! My sarcasm is wasted on this board. I didn't really patent a business." Sounds like a good idea though! And not all of your sarcasm is wasted. :) Some of us quite enjoy it!

Their is a compnay that does as Don describes. I beleive its called puppyescrow.com. You can also set up an escrow account with Paypal(easy to set up a ccount if you dont have one)a deposit is paid, and the balance paid after both parties are satisfied. Good Luck

You are willing to let a total stranger 'mediate', but are not willing to buy from another person, whom you just as well? Pupppyescrow was a mailbox company. Apparently no longer in business. A few years ago I contacted them, even on the phone they were not willing to prodvide me with a physical business address, what bank they were using, what lawyer they were using, in fact they told me no lawyer was needed. Escrow and no bank or lawyer involved? Again people would readily entrust their dollars to an anonymous source like that, but have second thoughts about someone they are actively in contact with about a purchase, someone who usually has a reputation and a history. Ask for references, see how long this person has been breeding or selling dogs. Risking a reputation or a livelyhood over such a small amount as a dog costs is not something that a seller will likely do. Even in Serbia a couple of thousand Euros will not last long. The odd time out you may get unlucky, no more no less than buying domestically. How do you know the person on the East Cost is sending you a dog to the Midwest? Most fears are unfounded, IF your expecations are realistic. Unrealistic expectations usually translate into disappointments. Don't expect that VA dog or the Lassy clone for peanuts like so many people do. As to sending a dog first and hoping for money later? Tried and tested, failed miserably, especially in the US. Every time all you are left with is hope. Kari, still hoping... at the very least for a life sign. Cheers.
