I feed Canidae dog food and have had very good luck with it. I recently bought some wheat germ oil as an additive because my males coat was a little ruff, well it did wonders for his coat, my female on the other hand has hot spots and she has never had them before, my question is has anybody else had a bad experience using wheat germ oil?

My Dobie/catahula cross got hot spots when I put her on wheat germ oil for a bad coat. That was how I found out that she was allergic to wheat and changed her to a food with no wheat. The wheat in her feed was giving her the bad coat.
Other dogs I have put on wheat germ oil did just fine on it.

We give one fish oil tablet a day with their dinner. The dogs coats all shine and our vet recommends it also.

Fish oil or a high lipid suplement such as "Show Stopper" do very well for improving coat condition.

Walmart carries (in the human supplements section) a combination Fish/Borage/Flax oil, which gives Omega 3, 6 and 9. I'm seeing outstanding results from these. My vet gave me a bottle of Essential Fatty acids from vtelabs to try, and it contained the above, as well as Evening Primrose oil. So I buy them all at Walmart.

Stay away from wheat and it sounds to me like your "luck" has run out with Canidae.
Honestly, the dogfood you use should give the dog a great coat - if it doesn't, it sucks and I'd change dogfoods. Search thru the threads on this site for dogfood recommendations - there are a lot of great dogfoods out there.

There is no wheat in Canidae. The wheat germ oil is what gave the bad reaction. I have used Canidae for about 5 years and had real good luck with it. As a few have stated above some dogs do good on wheat germ and some don't. I bought some Show Stop today and only use it as a supplement to make the dogs coat look it's best.
