I got a terrified of everything 8 month black female GSD for $5oo at Jerland and had to give her away because she was way too shy. They said they did not have time to do anything with her. I did not get any registration papers with her or meet either of her parents. That poor dog was such a disappointment. I have since then been in contact with a breeder who also had a bad experience with a dog she bought from them, and two other people here in Duluth, MN have mentioned problems, one $1500 dog having dysplasia, despite the lifetime health guarantee. Larry does offer replacement of dog with genetic defect by dog of equal or lesser value but I guess they decided to keep it anyway. Just wondering about others' experiences with them. The website has tons of references and claims "satisfaction guaranteed". I was definitely not satisfied.

$500 WITH GUARANTEES??? I WOULD NOT SELL ANYTHING FOR 500 WITH ANY GUARANTEES. NOTHING WRONG WITH WANTING A SOCIAL SHEPHERD BUT DO NOT EXPECT GUARANTEES FOR $500, NOW IF I PAID 2000 I MIGHT EXPECT SOME GUARANTEES.

Do they have a website? I would love to know if they have a dog called Jerland's Dreger's Timber and/or Dreger's Tracer?
And if anyone know's what kind of lines are Mutz v. Dan Alhedy's Hoeve and Pell von der Bringtorder-Heide? Any insights on their character would be appreciated!

He told me his dogs ranged from $500 to $5,ooo. I live on $623 a month. When I called he said I could get a puppy, but not breeding quality. I said fine, I don't do the puppy breeding thing anyway. I wanted a nice, calm dog for psychiatric service work so I borrowed money from my daughter's savings account and had a friend drive me to Barron, WI. He showed me two other puppies about four months old that were so hyper my then 3-year-old daughter got scared. They were also $500 because one was a longcoat and the other, normally a $3,000 dog had a very short tail. The short-tail pup looked awesome. I should have taken her, but she was so hyper. I actually wanted a little puppy but the current 8-week-old litter
Their website can be found by searching jerland farms.

Well you were told up front that she was shy...not what you would want for a psychiatric service animal..they didn't hide this from you and you had a choice of a few different dogs. Can really only blame yourself.
Now for work with your girl. You will need to socialize her carefully, and for a long time. I would personally only feed her from my hand and take her everywhere. Find the distance that you need to keep from things and don't pressure her. I had a very shy male that I was working with I would take him to the park, where lots of action was....We would sit very far away from everything, and I would give him food every once in a while. When he started to relax we would move closer and start all over, every few days, but only when he would relax, I would move closer...never letting anyone come to us...within a few months he was right up with all the people and taking treats from them. Does he still stress in new situations? yes, but he does calm down within a few min and getting better everyday. Would I use him as a therapy dog. NO..to much stress on him now, maybe in a few years or when he is older...with continued socialization. I also never let anyone approch my dog, I let the dogs approch the person.
Hope this helps

I think they must supply to the pet trades, and if they aren't the puppy mill, they probably supply to the pet trades. Stelters Chase is a progeny of Jerland's Dreger's Timber, but seems to lack titles, as would his progeny, SS Gilbert, who is the daddy to my most stunning pup, who I rescued from a pet store, that unbeknownst to me was part of the Hunte Corp. I had just lost my black pup, and we saw my new guy, with the kids with us and he was a Xmas left-over, and with a discount we paid $1K. But this is in the NorthEast; everything is expensive here!
If only I knew then what I know now, but he is a great pup, NOT timid, play drive, prey drive, thief drive, king of the hill drive, (I was washing dishes and turned around and was staring at a 60 lb pup just standing on top of my big country kitchen table! I stayed calm submissive and lifted him down because I didn't want big gouge marks in the table! LOL
I have no health issues with my pup to date, sure hope your dog is okay, it's just there are no guarantees from life, we expect them perhaps, only because we wish it were true?

A very close friend of ours has a Jerland Dog.
He is part working lines and part show lines.
Although he is not a "show type" dog.......this dog is one of the toughest, hardest, soundest dogs we have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working!
Most people in the clubs in our area, have met the dog and LOVE his working ability.
Too bad he is a "home pet" with a house full of children! hahaha
Actually; he has a wonderful home!!
Otherwise....that is the ONLY dog we have ever seen from that particular kennel.

Maybe someone on this board will recognize the dog???
It's Gina Miller's dog...OTTO.
He is pretty cool!

beetree -
you asked about the pedigree or type of dog on:
1)Mutz v. Dan Alhedy's Hoeve -
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/10829.html showline dog, sired by Cimbo von der Burg Reichenstein (Quando v Arminius son)
and out of Candy van Dan Alhedy's Hoeve, (Uran v Wildsteiger Land granddaughter).
His breed survey (in Dutch) describes him basically as a large, stretched, robust built dog with powerful head. Very good angulation, front and rear. Beautiful breast and depth. Powerful, dry and muscular. Impressive appearance. TSB pronounced, does out.
2)Pelle von der Bringforder-Heide (note correct spelling) - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/72216.html
seems to be a combination of show/working, but more show. She's out of Cim v Lippetal (Wanko vd Maaraue son) and Boren von der alten Geer.
No breed survey in file..

My last post got cut off. The 8-week-old litter he had was $1,500 and out of my price range. I have since found puppies from another breeder at the same price, difference is, these nice people are willing to work with me and let me give them what I have when I get the puppy and the rest when I get it, besides 15% off since my current dog I received from them was free and needed a good home. When I picked him up at age 4, and obviously something wrong with his hips, she told me he needed someone to love him. And I do. That Jerland dog is in a loving home and happy with the nice lady who took her. Maybe things would have been different if I'd had more money......
Anyway, 3 cheers for Steve and Connie Miller at Vom Haus Miller German Shepherds for selling me my future pup, pickup date April 26!
