the flies are like vampires this year i have tried all my old remedies and nothing is working. we have had a very wet winter spring and summer so far. i pick up after them as soon as it makes an exit!!!!
the ears are the problem any body have an treatments thanks

From Revival I get the groomer pack of flea drops and put them on the tips of my dogs ears.
Works great. If bugs are bad in your area or as you say a lot of water exposure do it 5-7 days if needed that often.
I do mine every 21 days or so.
If you don't need want that much get flea drops for a small breed and use that.
Buy cheap you don't need to worry about killing off the whole bug population just repel

Do be careful of what you use though around your dogs. I use
Farnum Repel-X mixed with water spray it on my horses but sunlight will weaken it.
