My new puppy get car sick bad. Drooling, pucking, it is disgusting. I've never had this before. I would like to hear some suggestions from people who may have. Thanks

Try only short rides like only down the driveway.then stop. repeat later on. if that goes well,go up and down the driveway and increase slowly as tolerated. You will need patience for this one but it may never go away. I hope it does.Good luck. Make sure the ears are clean.

I've always taken my new dog (puppy) for short rides to some place where they will have fun. Like a short ride to a place where they can run. Or a short ride to get a little ice cream. This makes them want to ride because they associate riding with fun. If the only time they ride is to the Vets they probably won't like it. Good luck

Does it get sick every time in a vehicle? This can be either motion sickness or the pup is getting stressed. If it is the latter it will not be very strong nerved.

Ginger root. Or, gingersnaps from the supermarket with some cream cheese or peanutbutter. Haven't actually tried it, but it's sworn to work. I've only had one dog that got carsick the first two or three one-hour trips, then never got sick again.

They grow out of it.

my advice in the past on this has worked for many people. FEED the dog as normal, most people naturally think NOT to feed as it is sick in the car. Get Ginger Tablets from health shop, and give 1 tablet 1/2 hr before travel. Rather than short journeys - go on LONG journeys, put up with the sickness if you get it, give a drink of water, and another ginger tablet, and carry on. Dont speak to the dog - this will only exacerbate the feeling of vulnerability. Make sure that when travelling the dog is in its comfortable own secure space, is not slipping around and has fresh air and you do not have the car heater on - also drive steadily uintil the dog is confidently travelling with you The days you are not travelling out with the dog - put the dog in the car, being concerned with shade and fresh air and safety for one hour without going anywhere, leave the dog, then reward and bring the dog inside. Soon the car becomes a familiar object and the sickness should subside. Also make sure that the journey ends up with a walk and a play in the park or similar. Hope it works, Regards Mo - Mascani

Darbazine will also help until the pup get acclimated to car travel. It's available from your vet.

this is a very easy problem to solve . generally it is a balance problem and then again anytime a canine is unsure about something it is stressed. you can e-mail me if you wish and I can relate to you how to behaviorally appreaoch this . also i have seen dogs forced even for short rides and if not ready they stress even more and the pup is worse off .At other times when forced to take short rides the pup learns to cope and to just get over it . We must read the dog and adapt to what is going on woithin your dog .BTW cleaned this same issue up with my fiend and ina short while his pup was running into the vehicle for a ride !

My girl used to get terribly car sick when she was a baby, I let her ride up front with me for short trips, she'd put her head in my lap, and sometimes this would work, (other times I would then wear the barf,LOL). She seems to have out grown it, last few trips she did fine, and if I take the pup with us she's so focused on him I don't even think she realizes she riding!jo
