females tieing on day 11 ? - Page 1

Have other breeders out there only being able to get a single tie on day 11 come up with no pregnacy with a female normally having no problems getting preg with both being live natural covers ? I know a live cover has the best chance for sperm to live the longest and i would have thought they could have lived long enough to meet the eggs when ripe enough for the sperm so not sure if she has other reproduction issues even though she is not an older female by any means. Any examples from others not being able to get more than a single tie and not getting a sec or third tie a little latter in heat and also not getting preg. with their own females?

I question if she really was only on day 11 for that one breeding; if you couldn't get another tie after that, you may have already been a day or two too late when she bred on what you thought was day 11. Some bitches are so clean, produce so little discharge and show so little change to the vulva, that it can be very easy to miss the actual start of their heat. Those are the girls that you need to check for discharge by swabbing inside the vulva with a sterile swab if you want to be certain of when they've started...or by letting an intact male tell you about it.

Ya kind of hard to say but im still wondering if she just tied early in her heat cycle and the sperm died off before able to get to the eggs ready for conception and the reason i say that is when i got home my own stud dog acted very interested in her for approx four days or so after we got back from the outside stud that she tied with, she would flirt with my male alot and flag everytime i let her come around my male in his crate, she has came up preg bred on only day 11 in the past so i dont know guess the moral of the story is dont rely on only 1 tie try for 2 or even three if possible. I had someone use my own stud we got three ties over the course of three days but even with that their female still only had a single pup being born.

Like Hexe said, some females are REALLY clean and easy to miss. Progesterone testing really helps in those type of girls.

Split heat

I have a female we kept breeding day 11-14 never got a litter, on the 3rd try I did progesterone testing, I found out the she will stand and accept the male pretty much her total heat, but she was not ovulating until day 20, last breeding we got 8 beautiful puppies, I will do prog testing again on her on next breeding!

She got a tie before on day 11 in past and had a large litter if i wasnt 1500 miles away from the Stud that i used then i would have tried for more ties latter in her cycle and so in future i will shoot for trying for ties on days 13 to 16 and see if that doesnt give better chance of pregnancy and if that still doesnt work i would think something is internaly wrong and cant get preg no matter what day she tied on.... thanks for all ideals and suggestions.
