Don, 4pack is absolutely right. I'm sure you've learned that already. I recently posted DDR or Czech dogs in the requestto buy section. I can't tell you how many BS emails, fakes, phonies, and generally scam artists with sick, injured or just plain crappy American dogs I've seen. There was only one response that interested me however, he must have stolen that dog or it must be dreadfully ill. When I pressed him for original papers and health questions suddenly, all correspondence has stopped. Oh well, I'll keep looking. God luck to you (Godfadda)

That is sad. I think you'll be happier if you look for them yourself and ask people which kennels they recommend. There are many good kennels right here in the U.S.. You just have to know what you are looking for.

I soooo have to agree with you. I currently still have 4 pups for sale...should only be 2!! Some people out of GA were suppose to take 2 of them, and suddenly all communication stopped. According to one, already went out and bought kennel, toys, food, bowls...etc. If you went out and purchased another dog somewhere else, have the "kahona's" to atleast call and let me know! I don't care if you buy somewhere else, but don't leave me hang'in. I know my dogs are not the "best" working lines out there, but I can tell you each one's personality off the top of my head, and how each one works.

I am sorry you feel that way, ladywolf45169. However, I have two e-mails in my sent box (with read receipts) that state otherwise regarding communication suddenly stopping.

My responses/results from posting pups for sale on this board have run about 50-50 legitimate sales inquiries vs. BS. Unfortunately, the BS takes as much time as the legitimate sales inquiries. The responses from my stud dog ads run a little better at about 65-45. Compared to some of the other media I advertise in the overall response is better from this venue, and you can't beat the cost! :))) SS

I'm adding a new page to my site this weekend. I think I'm going to actually start posting all the BS buyer's emails. :-)

A dog or puppy is for sale until a signed contract and money exchanges hands. There are times after some, or much, communication the buyer may feel it's not the best match afterall and decides to look elsewhere. Unless a buyer has broken a signed contract (discused to death on other threads) there is no obligation for the seller to wait or the buyer to buy. Just my 2-cents which after inflation isn't worth a penny.

Animules, Very true and very well put. However, if a buyer contacts a breeder, and customer satisfaction is an important factor for most breeders, and the buyers appears to be soooo excited, and promises of deposit are given by buyer....what would be the acceptable time frame to actually try and hold a puppy for someone? What kind of reputation is a breeder getting when they sell a puppy promised to someone else, simply because no money has exchanged hands yet? It's really a no-win situation for most breeders. If a buyer is "just looking" and would be upfront about it, then we wouldn't run into these situations!

I had a buyer send me his deposit and then suddenly stop all communication. I would have gave him his deposit back but I could never get in touch with him. Guess he found a puppy elsewhere!

by Blitzen on 20 April 2007 - 15:04

When I was breeding I never considered a puppy reserved until I had the deposit, I usually asked for half the price of the puppy. It was non-refundable if the buyer just changed his mind and went elsewhere, but I did refund if I could not provide the buyer with the quality he wanted. The balance was due in cash when the puppy was picked up. This must all be put in writing in plain language so there are no misunderstandings. I see absolutely nothing wrong with asking a buyer for a deposit on a pup. "Show me the money" usually weeds out the window shoppers up front and it is a good indication of the integrity of the buyer and what sort of home he or she will provide for the dog. I also think the price of each puppy or adult should be stated up front in ads. A range is fine -"puppies priced from $1 and up". People looking for a $50 dog will not contact breeders who sell their dogs for more than that.
