Reliya

by Reliya on 20 February 2017 - 07:02

Hello. My dog was having abdominal issues, so I had her stomach xrayed to make sure she didn't eat anything she wasn't supposed to. (Turned out to be horrible gas.) Her hips are in the xray, and I was wondering if I could get others' opinions on them. She wasn't sedated, so the hips are tilted badly, but I still think they would look good if they were taken properly. An image

Left side of our screen: shallow hip socket,  with this x-ray I might guess fair.

Right side of our screen: hip socket and conformation of socket looks better I would guess good. However due to this x-ray it is only my guess. How old is this dog? Is this near her season, either before or after... just curious. some say that it could make a difference. Hope she feels better...Nan

Hips are fine! It's not a shallow socket; it's a partially aerial view.

She's three, almost four. This was around her season. She's doing a lot better now that I've taken her off chicken. Poor thing, though. Her gas was so bad, she would cry for hours and touching her abdomen caused her to cry, also.

Poor girl; regarding the chicken; my older Samoyed boy (now almost 11) had to be taken off chicken due to allergy?? Never knew until he started getting anal fistulas; said they could be from allergy; well off the chicken he went as he had eaten chicken all his life (at that time he was 9 years old). Fistulas have gotten better but not gone.

PS: watch her for bloat...

I hope she doesn't bloat. :(

If she's almost 4 those are very good hips. There would definitely be wear and tear visible at this angle if there were a problem.

How much chicken did you give her? Was it starting to go bad? Give smaller amounts and give Phazyme. Probiotics and digestive enzymes help with that, too.

Chicken was fresh. Two pounds. I buy it daily to add with Merrick Backcountry. Chicken in the evening; Merrick in the morning. She's 70lbs, full of energy. Jenni, I sent you an email about her years ago. (You probably wouldn't remember.) She's half show lines, half working.

Relliya, how are you so certain that chicken is the culprit, not Merrick Backcountry?

She's eaten Merrick for a long time. I just started adding chicken right before this happened. I heard that mixing dry food with real meat sometimes doesn't agree with dogs' stomach since they're so used to processed junk.
