X-ray is from a 6 month old female who was sedated.

Very poor in terms of patella rotation. Look fairly normal for age, though, all things considered, best I can tell from this poor photo which doesn't even show the knees. I don't find 6 month x-rays terribly revealing- I thinkk 12 months is the sweet spot with regard to differentiating mature genetic picture from wear and tear.

This is a tuff one jayjay as I would like to see both sockets a bit deeper but at her age not sure that it is that relevant. And they could change that much. However, on the right side of the screen probably her left hip looks a bit shallow in the socket. If I had to grade at this age with this x-ray I would probably say "FAIR". Hips look to be rotated slightly outward. This is really not the best x-ray to go by though but good luck. Nan

Hips are not "slightly" outward, Nan, they are EXTREMELY outward. Look at the patella on the right side of the screen. It is so far out it appears to be leaving the joint, LOL. I would agree that deeper sockets are preferable, but sooo much can change at this age. If this dog were mine, I would exercise on sand, up hills, etc. to really tighten up the rear and hopefully finish growing her with strong musculature to help keep those heads planted as deeply in the sockets as possible.

My initial thoughts were also 'fair' at best. The ball joints are not well-seated in the sockets, and the sockets are shallow.

As for what to do about it, follow Jenni's advice!

Thanks for the opinions. The vet thought one will come back fair and the other mild. She was brought in for x-rays after we noticed she was sitting on her upper thighs sideways. I realize puppies sit in some very unusual ways but I've never seen it like this before.

Was your puppy sitting like this?

What is this bitches weight? Because in her x-ray she looks somewhat overweight? NOW that WILL make a difference in her overall x-ray. Get her weight down with her exercise and be sure you have her on a food that can nourish her for what she needs. You only have one shot at this and that is NOW... DO not exercise her on asphault' go with swimming, sand and soft dirt tracts or thick grass. Good luck Nan

If it was the same vet who shot the film, I wouldn't listen to their opinion on what OFA might say, as they're clearly not well-versed in proper submission protocols with regard to positioning. If you picture the hips in the position they *should* be in, they don't "look" as bad. I'd not panic yet, do as previously suggested, and redo at a year.
