If you had a choice to get a dog and only these two options ( BYB Working Line and ASL ) were available, with which would you take a risk at owning and why?

When you say BYB working line, do you mean fighting dogs, junkyard dogs, and those types of dogs?

A sports enthusiast would like to call most of the LE/PP breeders as BYBs because they do not "title" their dogs....

Many of the so called Reputable Breeders are actually Puppy Farmers.

To the OP, my first dog was pretty much a "BYB" American show line who went on to be 3x SchH3, CDX. Since then, I've gone with European working bloodlines.
Whatever bloodline you go with, make sure you like the parents and make sure they have valid hip certifications (ask to see them or make sure they're in the OFA database).

I would choose the pup from a litter bred by the person who most impressed me, kept in the best conditions possible for their set-up. That does not preclude them being a "back yard breeder", only that they are not an out-and-out money-grabbing ignoramus, whichever the type they breed. In other words I want a companion dog who is going to be healthy.
I would not be looking for a 'podium dog' as I cannot put in the training; and I need a softer temperament because I live in a retirement community. But purely for LOOKS I'd be leaning towards the working side (IF I were in the States !) - however, I thought we had established that looks are the LAST thing you should pick a dog on. LOL.

Christine, yes, too ridiculously generalized assertion.
When your BYB first dog went on to become so and so, a BYBreeder also became a Reputable Breeder. Ridiculous, but true.
Your last paragraph was very true. But it was ridiculous that you HAD TO write that in the first place.....
