I own a DDR male from Schraderhaus, best dog I have ever own. I don't compete, all I wanted is a family/personal protection dog. My dog is high energy, and very protective, he is only 2 years old. My question is regarding the DDR mature age. What do they mean that they mature later than Czech lines. What do you expect to see once mature compare to now, and at what age do they normally mature. I understand it varies from litters, I just want to get an idea..

I think slow maturing is often used as an excuse for lack of performance considering the people that most often say it. Could also be the DDR infatuation with heavy boned dogs that they actually do take longer to mature??

If you google DDR late maturing you will find a large number of threads on other forums where this topic has been profusely discussed and by people who have owned and observed DDR dogs; even regulars on here can be seen making their contributions on those forums.
To simply discredit everyone's observation without having owned and observed DDR dogs yourself is the typical run of the mill " ocean of negativity" which seem to characterize many of your posts.

@ VK

"What people write on forums is at best ho-hum. Forums are social venues."

Does you statement exempt PDB? Are you writing ho-hum?

Remind me of an Indian philosopher ( JJ Krishna Murthi ) who said there was no need to write books, but he wrote book to broadcast that message.

The forums on the pdb are not the pdb if you haven't noticed.

Personally I would find an excellent trainer educated in the breed and make sure you direct and train accordingly. YES now... at 2 years old, sets the future for your dog. good luck Nan
