Mindhunt

So Quint (my 2 year old rescue GSD) has decided to not eat when the others are around or when his crate door is shut.  I feed all of them in their crates and shut the doors.  The old boy (14 years old) is nearly blind so I make sure he has no one around him (he used to get very nasty) and my female ( 12 years old) is just a b**ch when someone comes around hers, so the crate doors are shut and partitions between them so they can't see each other.  So Quint has been eating no problems (and he has gone from Germany to U.S. Michigan, then another person who rescued him, to the temporary home, to a boarding kennel, to transport to Texas to me all in the past year 2015.  I have had him since Oct 2015 and no problems eating.  We have moved to a new place in Florida during the first week in Sept and he has seemed to adjust well.  These past 2 weeks, he has decided to only eat when the others are back in the house from the garage where their crates are and his door MUST be open.  He is just a weird dog lol.

We always keep canned Chicken Noodle Soup on our shelves.

IF a dog here ever stops eating, or stops eating when we travel with them, if you add a bit of the soup to the meal, with warm water added.....stir.....viola! Magic Happens! We have NOT had a dog that would not at least eat a little bit....and the little extra salt in it will make them drink more water.....helping the system get started again.

My dad used bacon grease the same way. Works....

Thanks von Kazmaier, I use organic broth to entice but that doesn't even work.  I think he is just stressed lately with all the changes and it shows in his eating habits.  He will eat, just not when the other 2 are present and his crate door shut.

Maybe not a weirdo..do you think that something was triggered in his mind,
that happened to him before he was rescued?
He might be a little unsure of himself right now, and this could be his coping mechanism.
Give this boy TLC.. mentally he is still a young dog and what he went thru before you got him only he knows...
Just a thought.

I agree with Dawn....
But it sounds like this boy is in GREAT HANDS NOW!

One word of caution...easy on the bacon grease, too much and you can incite a bout of pancreatitis.

The behavior is odd in that it is particular but I think there must be some kind of pack dynamic at play? Either the open or closed door gives him permission for some reason? Or he is sending a message to the other pair that he is responsible for claiming his meal, over them, perhaps?
