Of course he'll be going to the vet, but does this look like pannus? this has come up quite suddenly, in the last month or so. Deuce is 6.5 yes old.

It`s hard to tell from the photo, but I had a dog with pannus, my very first German Shepherd. It appeared as a dirty brown film, which, when I adopted her, had crept up until it was partially blocking the entry of light to the pupil.

I took her to a veterinary eye specialist, and he gave her a cortisone injection directly into the eye. It worked like magic - within 48 hours, the brown film had receded to the bottom of the eye, and she could see normally again!

When I took her back to the vet for her recheck, she licked his face. I think she was saying `Thank you``!

A couple of weeks later she was chasing a dirty grey tennis ball in the evening twilight, after the sun had gone down.

Prednisone eyedrops every 3-4 days or so kept the problem under control for the rest of the time I had her.

RIP, Lili Marlene...

It`s difficult to tell from the photo, but yeah, I think maybe that could be pannus. :(

Please let us know what the vet says!

Edit: here's an excellent video that show a close-up of a GSD with pannus. I never noticed the cloudiness in my dog's eyes, only the brown film, which is especially obvious on the white part of the dog's eye, though it's in the pupil as well, underneath the cloudy area.

Melissa, is the color accurate in that photo?

Pretty accurate. It's like a brownish film. It started around the outside of the iris, and looked a little odd but I didn't really think anything of it. My teen has been doing a majority of dog care since baby made her appearance in August, so it really wasn't picked up before it started progressing. Feel like a shitty  dog owner for that one.

He's going to the vet likely tomorrow, so no issue of not being able to get the care and a positive diagnosis.

Never doubted that!

Oh, I know. But it is the Internet and I know pdb pretty well lol. I'm not substituting for veterinary advice :)

Ohh, yes, I know all too well!

Well, one thing for sure, you caught it early. Even though my dog's condition was fairly advanced by the time I rescued her, it responded very well to treatment.

Congratulations on the new arrival! Boy or girl? Teeth Smile
