AKC registering litter out of foreign dog - Page 1

If the mother is AKC registered, and the father is a Serbian import with FCI pedigree can the litter of puppies be AKC registered?

Yes ... AKC honors FCI registrations and vice versa ... there is no FCI in the USA and the AKC and FCI have a letter of mutual pedigree acceptance. All of the dogs representing the USA at FCI events must be AKC registered.

From the AKC website:

The dam of my litter is AKC registered but the sire is a foreign dog, how can I register my litter?

Answer: A litter whelped in the U.S. by reason of a mating that took place outside the U.S. between an AKC registered or registrable Dam and a non-AKC registered Sire may be registered if the Sire meets the registration requirements outlined in Section A of our Special Registry Services pamphlet. These requirements can be found on our website at /rules/special_registry_services.cfm?page=5.

You must also complete our Special Litter Registration Application (ALITTS) and submit the following documentation:

1. A legible copy of the official three-generation Pedigree for the Sire issued by the Foreign Registry in sire's country of birth.

2. The Stud Certificate issued by the registry organization in whose Stud Book the Sire is registered, or an official letter from that registry organization, must verify, with its official Club Seal and authorized signature, that the person signing as owner of the Sire was, in fact, the recorded owner of the dog at the time of the mating and that the foreign Sire was mated to the bitch named on the AKC Litter Registration Application Form.

Is FCI an acceptable registry?

Answer: FCI is not an acceptable registry. The FCI is not considered a 'registry' as such. They are an organization made up of individual registries that each have their own pedigrees. A complete list of the registries that we do accept can be found in our Special Registry Services pamphlet or on the AKC website at/rules/special_registry_services.cfm.

 

Notice how it says "outside the USA." It's my understanding that if you own the sire and he's here in the states, you have to register him and do DNA on him. It's $100 to register the dog with AKC and $50 for the DNA, I think.

My dog had an FCI pedigree from KZS, and I registered him with the AKC.

I don't know what all the FCI BS is about ... the pups can be registered .. period ... the FCI honors AKC pedigrees and vice versa. If you import a dog from an FCI member country they have one organization that is the FCI member. The SV is not a FCI member
... in Germany the VDH is the FCI member. The USA has no FCI member but if it did the AKC would be it. The AKC does not wish to be an FCI member. The AKC must accept FCI registrations because they have agreed to do so and the FCI must accept AKC registrations for the same reason. If you import a dog with FCI papers you must register with the AKC before it can participate in AKC events. If you import an AKC dog to an FCI member nation you must register your dog with the FCI before it can compete in an FCI event. If you import a dog with FCI papers it must be registered with AKC before you can register it's offspring with AKC or send that dog to represent the USA at an FCI event. Dogs going to the FCI world IPO championships from the USA must have an AKC registration and nothing more. The FCI has no power in the USA and the AKC has no power in FCI member nations. The arrangement between the AKC and the FCI benefits both and harms neither.

Bubba that is what AKC says   They must register the FCI dog with AKC then they may register the pups.

From my understanding, it is saying that it will accept papers from the dog's birth country's kennel club (but elsewhere on the site, it says you do need papers from all the kennel clubs the dog has been registered under). For Bosco, that was papers from KZS; for a German dog, that would be the SV; etc. There's a list of countries and kennel clubs on the site that they accept. Click it to see.

The FCI dog must be AKC registered if residing in the USA. If not resident in the USA then the AKC must accept the FCI registration on the pedigree. The same holds true for a dog imported to a FCI member nation ( there is only one FCI member per nation no matter how many kennel clubs they have ). An AKC bitch bred to an AKC male of the same breed when imported to an FCI member nation would need to be registered with FCI in that nation but the AKC papers of the USA resident male must be accepted by FCI for litter registration purposes under the mutual acceptance agreement between FCI and AKC. If you import an AKC registered GSD to Germany the VDH must accept the pedigree and register the offspring if bred to either an FCI or AKC registered male GSD under the agreement between AKC and FCI.
