My boy Radar went to bed with us Saturday night at 11 pm. He woke us up at 2 am, and something was obviously very wrong. We took him to the emergency vet and his temp was 105.6. The administered iv fluids and doxycycline and the temp came down to 103.9. Monday morning we took him to his regular vet -- he was reacting badly to the doxy so yesterday morning they switched to Cipro and started him on prednisone. He had no appetite for a couple of days, and at one point was unable to walk or pee without a catheter. He is very arthritic (one THR and an operation for cauda equina when he was two) to begin with I would point out. After getting him on the Cirpro and pred he was able to walk again but this morning has edema in a front leg. The vets have sent off blood samples for a tick titre, but a GSD owner who is a friend of mine had a dog with the same symptoms and the diagnosis was spider bite. I'd welcome any thoughts or advice any of you could offer to help my special boy, Radar. His temp is now normal, white blood count slightly elevated, but bloodwork had been unremarkable otherwise.

Anything known on what kind of spider this might be ?

No that is just a theory now. Also we have sent off a tick panel to see if it was a tick. All in all very puzzling.
