Maybe silly, maybe useless, but I found these pictures today, out of the early fifties. The male shown in these pics was a "veteran" when I was born - the first German Shepherd Dog I had the pleasure to touch.
My passion never changed...
On this pic my grandma - grandpa used his dogs to clear the pub from drunken guests, he was involved in Schutzhund since the thirties. I was there almost every day for the first 15 years of my life...
Next pic my aunt and my uncle, they owned German Shepherd Dogs, too.
I had no choice...

Hundmutter, it´s a badminton racket, used by the kids ( my elder cousins ), but used to bat balls for the dogs, too.

Love the vintage pictures of German Shepherds. My great aunt had German Shepherds in Germany and used them as working dogs. Many widows had them for help around the farm and protection after WWII. My introduction was being bitten on the arm by a neighbor's GSD, I so wanted to pet him, but the treatment he received and being tied up outside 24/7 without socialization made him aggressive. I was so hurt that he didn't know I wanted to be his friend. Grew up with rescues during my childhood so we always had dogs, cats, and other animals including horses. My first GSD was in 2000 and was the greatest dog ever, Loki, lost him to DM. I also had other greatest dogs ever, Ronin who is now 13 years old, Isis who is now 11 years old, and Quint who turned 2 years old. Have another pup coming next summer. Of course the number and breed of dogs I have has made finding rentals in Manatee County FL very difficult, but would not change it for the world.......

I have one. Me in the pink holding Gildo vom Koerbelbach. In the middle is Satan vom Baerenfang and my little sister is holding Olko vom Baerenfang. On the other side a childhood friend with her Shepherd. This was taken in Denmark at the Northern Sea on Summerbreak.

THIS is what a REAL GSD is, and was meant to be--a dog that was at home in a family setting, but could bring the pain when the situation called for it...with a stable temperament and the intelligence to recognize the latter.
Great photos, everyone...it's fun seeing the dogs that helped make each of us who we are.
