I need a Schutzhund trainer that will be willing to come to my city in the states and train my dog and me. I will pay for travel expenses - plus a training fee. Does anyone know of anybody good?

Most have their own training kennels, the clients go to them rather than the other way around. Are there no trainers you can go to?

I rather have someone come to me. I have three dogs. I guess you could probably call it Personal traiing.
Thank you

Hi,
I am a K9 trainer originally from Europe but I now live in Hawaii. Where are you based? I know several good trainers on the mainland as well that may be a cheaper option for you.

Alex, it is not quite that easy. It takes several months to train a dog up to SchH1, even longer if you want to go further. If you do not have a trainer locally or at the very least within reasonable driving distance, you will be hard pressed to find someone to train either continuously or intermittendly with your dogs. If continuously, they are leaving another job and other dogs behind, and that for several months, and need someone to pay their salary, plus the expenses that are still going on at home. Not going to be cheap. A good trainer will have a daily rate plus expenses he will charge for seminars, and this will be no different. If intermittendly, travel expenses and time will get up there pretty quickly too. This is not a realistic proposition. If someone only came out every weekend to train with your dogs for two days a week, ie over a weekend, it will take forever to get these dogs trained and titled.
For example, we estimate 4 months on average for a SchH1 with KKL, plus/minus a month depending on the dog. That gives you an idea of timeline - IF the dog is trained continuously and several times a day, IF the trainer coming to your place can do it in the same time frame. Lots of other trainers need longer. You also need to have access to a proper training facility, and all the litter helpers - never mind THE helper - you need to train a dog, the equipment, etc, and trials too. I doubt you have all the equipment handy, just a sleeve will not do here.
Someone who wants a paid holiday may take you up on it for a couple of weeks. If you get any real benefit out of this is questionable. Do I really need to point out the potential pitfalls here? Any one who is good has established clientele or an established facility that he cannot just leave behind for any length of time. Going someplace has to be worth that persons while. I can send you a list of good trainers in the US. If they have time for something like this, and are within your budget remains to be seen. Very good trainers though. Any one just bumming around for a few weeks or months will just be doing that, bumming around. On your tab.
Having a trainer charge per month without an upper ceilig and guarantee for title is not really a cheaper option if you ask me.
If you would like to reconsider and send one or all dogs off for titling in Germany, contact me. We disucss every dog with you first to see if it is worth your while to send it, charge per title and provide a minimum title guarantee, and are not that expensive.
