Reading some people think that black and tan KNPV malinois today have some influence from GSD, that is not true the Black and tan color comes most of part from the Black malinois X yellow/ orange color so we can get Black and tan puppys in a litter. The black malinois genes comes original from the Groenendaeler and far, far aways some bouvier influence Or  some line breeding on black and tan dogs almost nobody in KNPV breeders will cross GSD with malinois today just saying !!! ( Also a small percent from black brindle  Dutch Shepherds)

A cross between Yellow Sable A^y and Self Black a^a CANNOT produce a Tan Point a^t !

A likely reason could be as the ancestors of Belgian, Dutch & German Shepherd Dogs were of the same region, the recessive Tan Point allele is still present in Malinois, but can express only when two copies of a^t or one each of a^t & a^a come together.

This will be possible when both parents are Yellow Sables, but actually both are A^y+a^t, and supplies one a^t each to the pup,
One parent is Yellow Sable but A^y+a^t and other is Self Black a^a+a^a, and the yellow parent supplies the a^t to the pup.

Occasional crossing with GSDs also cannot be ruled out, if Tan Point Malinois suddenly start appearing in numbers. But, in that case a Saddle/Blanket Pattern will also be very likely.

I didn't disagree with that mating result.

So, the Sire is Self Black a^a+a^a and the dam is Yellow Sable, but NOT A^Y+A^Y. She is A^Y+ a^t with recessive Tan Point allele. And the pup is a^t+a^a, so Tan Point, because a^t is dominant to a^a.

I am just disagreeing with your notion that crossing a yellow with a black produces black & yellow.

Also, there is a chance that the a^t of the Dam maybe had come from a GSD in her ancestry.
