This bill proposes mandatory spay/neuter at the age of 4 months. A Website has been created to debunk the alleged justifications for this legislation. Please visit http://www.saveourdogs.net and, if you live in California, please contact your representative and express your opinion.

I'm soooo glad I dont live there. What kind of a state is so P.C. that you cant have a ladies night at a bar. Give me a hammer and a chisel. That baby needs to float away!

A sign of things to come across the US unless all dog owners and breeders support each other. Many cities and counties are considering or passing similar legislation. Darned scary, or it should be to all.

Many localities, be they states or counties or municiplalities, already have similar mandatory spay/neuter laws in effect. While this particular bill is specific to California the movement is spreading across the US and will come to your place in the near future. The people of New Mexico beat it and Californians can, too, but it won't happen if we just sit here and moan "ain't it awful" at each other on the various boards.
If you live in California, phone your representative or send a FAX in opposition. Detailed information is provided at saveourdogs.net. Pass that URL along to any and all lists you're on, dog related or not. Write a Letter to the Editor of your local paper. Speak up!
And Don C., wherever you live, it'll happen there, too. Count on it.

Not a chance it will pass. If anything they will have to rewrite it and try again.
Who said you can't have a girls night out in CA? Uh Oh I'm in trouble.

Don't bet on it. The Louisville, KY ordinance passed in late December 2006 and now it's no longer safe to even travel through that town with our dogs.
Sensible people would naturally feel that Calif. AB1634 can't possibly pass because it's so incredibly ridiculous but we cannot ignore the finely tuned power of the PETAs. They turn out in droves for hearings, they're well organized into letter-writing robots, and while most of them don't think for themselves and blindly follow, at least they act, misguided though they are.
There are far more of us, the dog owners, than there are PETAs and their ilk, but if we remain complacent in our perceptions that 'no chance it will pass', the AR crowd WILL win. We do need to mobilize. Please visit saveourdogs.net and learn what we can and must do if we want to continue living and working with our dog companions.

I know allot of your think CA is surfboards and big city. Well wrong! I live in Nor Cal and we are redneck farmers tillin' up the land to feed the rest of the nation. There isn't a person I know, who would give government another chain of ours to yank. We all know the pet populations are high. This isn't the right way to go about it. Working dogs are the last dogs that need to be steralized.
Usually the big problems stem form low income areas and slums, that have dogs running lose. Destitute people don't spay their animals, they don't even take them to the vet or register them, so how on earth are we going to know about their pets and have them spayed? Will the taxpayers be required to pay for their dogs too? All this bill will do is make the wrong people and dogs, pay the price. They need to up the budget for animal control or make stiff fines for unregistered dogs and employ and huge task force to go door to door inspecting pets and paperwork. I don't see the government doing that!
This bill is rediculous and wouldn't even work if it did pass! I think the California people have a little more brains than to go for this.

Don't kid yourself that since it's not sensible it won't pass. Similar legislation has already been put in place in Los Angeles County and other local governments in California. Now they want to get the whole state!!!!!
If you live in CA please CALL and FAX your representatives, along with all the committee members who will review this bill.
If you don't live in CA, check to see if there is a dog owner's association in your state and contact them to see how you can help.

Agreed! But it is my understanding that the people of California will not be the ones voting it in (or out). Rather, it'll go through the legislature and the state senate and will be approved or vetoed by the governor. That's why it's so important for Californians to contact their representatives to speak out against this monster.
It takes fewer than five minutes to call, give your name and address, and say "I oppose AB1634".
