Has anyone ever had seizures in a pup as a vaccine reaction? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine had vaccinated 3 pups last week, the next day one of the pups was in status, it took phenobarb and valium most of the day at the vet. That pup took several days to straighten out some. Well, I vaccinated a 13 week old pup on Monday afternoon. Tuesday evening he had what looked like a Grand Mal seizure. It lasted a minute at the most. No more seizures after that one. We both use Vanguard plus 5, a Pfizer product. The only reason I am thinking vaccine is the way this happened. I am hoping with my pup that it was just a fluke seizure and that wil be it. Has anyone ever had a reaction like this? I spoke to Pfizer this morning and they have put the lot number an serial number in their database.

What did your vet say? I would really take caution when vacinating again -

I believe these puppies had what is termed an anaphylactoid reaction to the vaccines. Log on to http://www.labbies.com/anaphyl.htm Any additional vacs should be given by a vet in his office and the pup observed for at least half an hour.

I saw this happen on a collie pup once. Took to the vet and a couple of hours later it was fine.

Yes, we had the same lot number and serial numbers! We both had gotten the vaccine from Revival. I myself have always gotten vaccine from Revival with no problem before. I had used Duramune Max 5 (Ft. Dodge) before and my vet wanted me to switch to the Vanguard Plus 5. Both of these pups seizured almost 20 hours after the vaccine. We have been talking back and forth about this all day. 2 vets as well. I am probably going to dump the rest of that vaccine, 20 doses! I will be ordering something else. We have been trying to decide on what now.

I had a beagle who did the same thing very shortly aftr receiving her yearly booster last year. The vet immediately took her to the back to work on and had to keep her. After a few hours, she was alright but the vet cautioned that she may never be able to be vaccinated again. We're not sure which it was the distember/parvo combo or the rabies shot. We also found out she's deathly allergic to bee stings.

I would never give 2 vacs of any type on the same day.

Dr. Jean Dodds talks about vaccines and seizures. Yes, she has found a corolation between the two.
