Hi to all. I've been told about a breeding that is suposed to be the last of this dog in the world. Is there anyway of finding out if that is true. I'd rather not give the name of the dog on the message board. Both parents of this dog have 5x WUSV between them, not something to sneeze at, but then don't want to blow big bucks either. Any help would be grateful:)

I've got no good answer for you but I just had to say that the title of this post really stopped me dead for a second. I've been discussing semen so much lately that I'm at MY last straw!

What difference does it make? If it's the right dog for you, it shouldn't matter if there were one or a hundred straws left. Personally I wouldn't try it with one straw anyway. If you hope to have the last litter from a famous dog for advertising, just get a statement from the owner that this is the last litter and promote your litter for profit using the letter. If there are dozens of straws left, it's OK. You have the advertising tool you need.

They may be asking alot more money for that straw though because it is the "last straw" so I would probably want to know too.

Are you taking about the STUD being the last (ie. old lines)???? The one way to tell is by looing at the age of the studs parents, sometimes you can tell if the parents were up there in age ie, the female is 8 years old and the stud was over 10 years, it was likely their last breeding. Generally if there's alot of older dogs in a pedigree they tend to carry older lines in closer generations, which I'd say makes them rare.

Using only one straw of frozen semen is not likely to result in puppies.

The puppies are already born, Magbert von Blitzenstein. I have the choice of him or Mink linebreed 3:3:4 who I have a like for but Mink I can get again, Magbert I wont if it is the last semem. I have a couple of days to deside. And if it is the last semem for him I think I should grab it. What is the message boards idea. Mink is my favourite but that line breeding will make full on dogs and they are only for breeding

Your decision should be based on the qualities you see in the litter and not the parents in the 3rd and 4th generation on paper. If it's a crap litter from the best producing male and female ever to walk the face of the earth, it's still a crap litter. If the litter or a pup in the litter possesses what you are looking for and appears to represent the lines and traits those lines produce. (If you can even tell as a pup) The pedigree is a bonus.
