Hello Everyone! As some of you may know, I recently rescued a little black female, sister to my Naya.
When I rescued her she was 5 months (from the same litter as Naya) and Naya weighed around 40lbs or so, while her sister weighed an astonishing 15lbs. I rescued her March 9th, and so far, she now weighs 20-25lbs, she is on high quality puppy chow, and I have her on puppy milk to help replace the nutrients lost due to neglect. Her ears were down entirely and now they are fully erect. It's amazing what love and food will do!
I also have her on Salmon Oil pills, for her tattered skin and coat, and Wellness WellTabs also, just for general health. OH, I forgot, I have her on one raw egg a day also.
I am wondering, because she is still half the size of Naya, am I doing all I can for this beautiful little girl? Is what I'm doing right? And will she ever fully recover?
Hi there :)
Thank you for rescuing this little female from being neglected by the previous owners :)
You are doing the best you can for this bitch. She might seem scared at first but at the rate that shes going to because of you right now... she will make a full recovery. The worst thing that you can do for her is to feel sorry for her. Once shes fully recovered... treat her like any normal dog, not as a victim. If she does something wrong.. discipline her like a normal dog and DON'T feel sorry and rethink the past.
I hope this helps you
Brittany, thanks! I am currently doing bite work with her, as she LOVES it! And training, you know, the standard, Sit, Stay, Down, Come and things like that, just the very basic obediance stuff.
A friend of the breeder actually rescued her, and met me at the airport on the 9th of March, and said, "If you're willing to take her on, and make her the best you can, the breeder says she's yours for half price" so I bought her on the spot...she looked and smelled vile, her fur was caked in feces and of course, she was starving, but I'm trying my very hardest to turn her around.
Thanks so much for your comment, its nice to know someone's on my side!
Who the heck neglected the dog? Breeder?
You are doing great thing, hat down.
I would add pumpkin for her digestive health, a yogurt for good bacteria or acidopholus tablets you can purchase at a health food store, this way she will asorb the food you are feeding to the fullest since her poor system will be in shock to all the new food and plenty of it.
Thank you for resucing her!
Kari
Blue-Skye Kennels,
I really recommend xtrabloom wate. I used it on Layla because she always dropped her weight after having a litter, and that was the only thing that would put the weight back on her. It is pure animal fat in a powder form and kinda smells like vanilla. I've only found it at www.dresslersdog.com. I still have about 1-2 pounds left and since Layla is no longer with me if you want I can send it to you. I know what breeder you got her from and I applaud you for taking her in. Thank God there are still caring people in this world like you!! If you would like the powdered fat just email me privately and I will ship it out to you. I have no use for it and it would just get thrown away.
Thank you SO much for rescuing that poor girl.
God Bless you for it.

Blue Skye, First of all Good Job!!! You've taken on quite the task.
Secondly, don't worry about her size for a while yet, She'll catch up one of these days you'll look down and think, "now when did you get so big"? LOL
Wow what a story, Sad indeed, Keep up the great work and thanks for doing all that you can for this precious little baby.
Good for you, Krista. She may never reach the full size she is genetically programmed to be, but she will be healthy and happy just the same. I hope her breeder isn't neglecting anymore dogs.
There has to be a special place for people like you who would go to such extraordinary lengths for this poor puppy. Bless You. All the above are good things for your pup plus I have found that Linatone is great for skin and coat. I would go very slow with her training and socialization. If she was this neglected physically, God only knows what she went through emotionally. Don't stress her, keep it fun and happy, and let her set the pace for a while. You are going to end up with a really great dog!
By the way, ...1/2 price? That breeder should have GIVEN her to you!
