What do beaks, hooves, and feathers have to do with your dog food?? They are examples of high protein materials that can end up in your dog food that have little to no food value for your dog when eaten as part of their kibble. AAFCO is an industry shill organization that guarantees analysis of your dog's food based on chemical tests more appropriate for ruminants not dogs. The availability and biological value of dog food ingredients is not mentioned on the dog food label. Two dog foods with 30% protein by analysis can differ in biological value and digestible net food worth to your dog by 50%. The table below shows how protein sources from animal sources are as much as 100% more digestible and bio-available than poor quality plant protein sources such as corn or wheat gluten. If your dog food is 28% protein by analysis and derives 80% of the protein from corn, gluten, or wheat the available digestible protein is actually between 15% and 18% max with the rest going into body waste from your dog.
