"Having additional canines on duty can help keep lines moving since they can typically screen 1,000 passengers a day."

The excuse for not having enough dogs is the training and 'only' eight years or so of service...guess it's just better to have long lines, people missing planes, and planes getting blown out of the sky than to invest in more k9 s.

When we flew back from New York 2 weeks ago there have been 2 (!) Labradors on duty for just one check-in.
I was impressed...

You were in NY and didn't come visit !?

I'm crushed! Cry Smile

Yes, the dogs are finally getting recognition they deserve. I  remember not too many years ago that tsa said 'sniffer machines' were better than dogs.

My son and me drove from Houston to Amarillo to Indianapolis to New York ...always in a hurry Teeth Smile, we only had 2 weeks, but we had a great time and met a lot of old friends. I didn´t realize you are living in the New York area, otherwise we would have said "hello" for sure. So sorry!

No, I'm about 800 miles south of NY. lol.
Sounds like you had a full itinerary. :-)

Your country is waaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to big for a small German - I have to realize this whenever I am in the States.
We will meet one day, I am sure.

@ Susie, I hope we do get to meet one day. :-)

@ rivera, what I gathered from the TSA site, they buy from individuals and vendors.

Susie Im 5 mins from JFK and 15 from La Guardia airports. You could have dropped by and see my dog.

Mith, you are right in the heart of the concrete jungle, aren't you. Last time I flew in to LaGuardia, I was delivering a Boston terrier I trained for some clients, who were working at Madison square garden that week. That was in autum of 1984.
I was glad to get out of the concrete jungle.
