Females in Heat - Page 1

First I want to thank GSDandrea you were right. My female came into heat four days after your post. She is spotting and everything. My question is when females are in heat do they become disobedient? My females has become so hardheaded. She won't come when I say and she won't sit when I say. It takes a repeated amount of times. Anyone else experiences this? Also how long does the actual bleeding last? Thanks

As I have had at least one female for the last 20 yrs I can tell you they do become bitchy and harder headed!

Thank you. Im not so sure about the disobedient thing though. I only had one dog that came into heat and she was a hardheaded pitbull(a rescue someone dropped of at my front door about 5 years ago) and she would never listen to me - in heat or not. But I guess they do become "bitchy" as she attacked one of my neutered dogs while in heat, and what DesertRangers said. As far as how long the bleeding last anywhere from 2-3 weeks from what I understand. You cant let your guard down though, they become pregnant after the bleeding stops. I know you said you have a mutt next door so be careful and watch her when you let her out. This is about all I know about heat cycles, so maybe an experienced breeder can help you some more. I have a two year old in heat now and she seems a little disoriented. She obeys, but not as quick, and she seems pre-occupied. She also is whining a little. She is healthy for sure. I really think that she is like most females, in heat or not, she doesn't know what she wants :)

Easy Do right, LOL remember you are pretty much surrounded by females who dont' know what they want ?? LOL :-) Yes it's typical for females to become "hard headed" disoriented, sidetracked, preoccupied, and an array of other descriptions. Be patient with her, Her whole body is expeiriencing many changes right now. Also as far as heat cycles well, Some bleed for 8 days some for 14 and others up to 21 from my expeirience, some are from day one of bleeding ready for Males on day 9 others day 12 others still 14 to 16 so don't let your guard down at all. She will start waving her tail at every guy she sees that's what you look for, also the "winking" of the vulva as she waves at the boys, is an ABSOLUTE for readiness.
