Does any person out there know of a University Vet Hospital or Vet that specializes in Immune Mediated Arthritis - I am will to travel any place in the 50 states for a consult and to have my dog looked at - He was diagnosised with this in January at the U of M and is doing well on the Pred. - however, I have heard of Vets that study the disease. Thank you so much for any information you can provide.

There is a very well known clinic in Colorado called Alemeda East. You might want to check them out.

I just asked this question of a friend who is on staff at the vet school at the University of PA. Will let you know if he has any suggestions. How old is your dog?

Blitzen,
He is going to be 5 in May. You are great - thanks......he is not in any pain - just slight swelling (like slight) in the right medial hock - he was just heading down to a dose of 1 tab every other day for the next month - I try not to freak out - but it is not easy - however, they do tell me that they can live a long quality of life- if you know any different let me know. He is happy and a wonderful dog - really my life support - need your help.

Will you be giving him a 20mg tab every other day? If so, that's really quite a low dose for a larege breed dog. The every other day therapy allows the adrenals to recover between treatments. If you can keep him under control that way, I should think he will do just fine. Will let you know if I learn anything that might help.

You might try University of California at Davis. They are known to have one of the best and most progressive vet program in the US.
Good Luck.

I also say Alameda East in Colorado..They have 2 of their own shows on Animal Planet ( Emergency Vets and E-vet Interns). They have some of the best vets there and I can guarantee they can help you and your dog.
