I found this video and thought it was a very fascinating and also a quick educational look at an FHO procedure and the dog's recovery from it.

When you see how bad this dog's hips are (both sides) and see how the FHO on just one hip improved her quality of life it goes to show how resilient dogs can be when hip dysplasia is an unfortunate part of their life. Which may provide comfort to owners who are facing HD issues in their dogs, now or in the future.

Also interesting that this was HD in a complete mix breed, where you so often hear about it in purebreds. Curious to consider if this is pure genetics/nature at work or how much nurture had a hand in it as well.

Interesting video, thanks for the share.
I would think more cases are found in purebred dogs because they are tested more for it.
That mixbreed dog in video did for sure have the worse case of HD I have seen however.

It's the worst case I've ever seen as well.

Honestly, when I was first watching the video I was focused on the left hip and thinking that had to be some sort of traumatic injury. Then I went back to the x-rays and looked at the right hip and was just like "Wow...."

that mixed breeds have better hipscores is a flat out lie by the outcross promoters

bad hips can be caused by genetic or environmental influences

environmental is simple, can influence any bred or mixed breed

genetic, if parents of mixed breed have bad genes for hips, they will pass it on to their mix pups

Mixin doesnot make bad genes dissapear LOL

Maybe because no one is OFA or PennHip'ing mutts that's why they are not listed in the Database of the services.
No need to OFA your mongrel if all you want to know is why scruffy is limping or not being playful any more. Any good vet can tell you what the problem is. Being a mutt doesn't magically make your parents crappy genes go away.
Doodles still get bone cancer like their golden retriever parents. Or suffer from the bad genes of the poodle side.
It's all just a big scam by BYB. Least if i buy a pure bred dog i can demand to see the papers and the ratings.
I can even force the price down it the dog doesn't meet my minimums of health clearances. but then do i really wnat to buy a dog out of BYB unknown parents? Probably not.
