Can someone tell me or teach me how to read a pedigree. I'm new on this site, just bought a puppy that i will be going after and trying to figure out this pedigree? Or maybe can send me in the right direction to learn? for example?

There is not much magic in a pedigree .. offspring are most like mom, then dad, then Grandma, then Grandpa, and uncles and aunts, etc. The apple does not fall far from the tree and always falls in the same orchard.

Thanks for the replies, Thanks for fixing my link Bubba. Jenni78 i sent you a pm and responded to the others. High octane, I am beginning to wonder if i made a mistake by putting a deposit on this puppy out of that litter. Its done and to be picked up April 23rd , so now I'm trying to learn from some of you experts that can shine some light for me. My girl that i lost a few months back was European blood line. I don't want to be the one called careless or looked down on as i've seen some talk about others here. So any helpful ideas or directions are way more than welcome. Just don't want to be set up and let down on my own.

What did the breeder say this litter would/should produce? How much experience do they have with these bloodlines or any bloodlines? Is this a first time breeding or is this a repeat litter? Can you talk to the owners of the previous litter? I know a few of those dogs fairly well and it's not a pedigree I'd necessarily sell to novices, but I don't know them all well enough to say that maybe the parents aren't anomalies and wouldn't make fine pets...
Just a lot of strong blood there. I know Andre Semrowplatz, assuming the same litter as the grandparent in this breeding and that is not by any means a dog for a beginner. I could go on....I just picked one recent dog but there are several others that raise eyebrows in terms of selling to a complete novice.
You want your first working dog to be a fun learning experience and have hard work pay off. You don't want to be so overwhelmed that you feel like giving up.

A lot of very good dogs in the pedigree - prior to selling the dam was owned by Daelenberghuette, one of the famous Belgian breeders. They don´t tend to own mediocre dogs...
The sire is titled, out of very good dogs, too.
It´s not possible to say if your pup will become great or not, but by looking at the ancestry you will get a pup bred for work, and activity, for sure no coach potatoe.
I think, whomever bred these dogs, takes good care about working ability, I like it. I took a look at the breeder´s website, and I like it, too ( no puppy mill, trained and titled dogs, active breeder ).
Comparing this litter to 99% of other litters bred in the USA, you seem to have made a good choice.
You mentioned you already owned a German Shepherd dog, so I guess you know about the breed. You will need to educate your dog, you will need to give the dog something useful to do, but that´s no rocket science, in case you are interested in the breed ( and you seem to be interested, because during the research you made no faults ).
Good luck with your pup!

Comparing this litter to 99% of other litters bred in the USA, you seem to have made a good choice. Ill bet its more like 98.9% in the usa are bad compare to this one.
Looks like another great placement high end sport dog. I would say theres a 99% chance that other local dogs would have also made the grade. Most people just dont follow through it sound fun training but so many wont as a general rule.
Hopefully you have some training options close at hand. Get all that stuff in place so you get going right out of the gate. Good Luck

A working line dog doesn´t need necessarily an experienced IPO trainer, but an owner, willing to educate, nurture, and exercise body and mind of the dog.
In case you are trying to say that almost every dog will fit the prospective owners needs, we should stop to ask for any rules, titles, health tests, or breeding standards as a whole.
We don´t even know if the breeder didn´t pick the perfect puppy for the OP, after talking about the goals of the owner.
People on this board try to educate buyers for years now ( Do your homework... ) - this guy seems to have picked a puppy out of good lines, out of good parents, from an active breeder, no puppy mill.
Too much dog? Only in case the owner doesn´t care.

Susie: We don´t even know if the breeder didn´t pick the perfect puppy for the OP, after talking about the goals of the owner. Thats true certainly could have. Hopefully will.
Its really hard to gauge if a litter pick is 99% better then anything else thats a big number just poking fun at that.
I get so many calls from people whom where placed dogs way over the buyers head, time requirement, knowledge level etc, looking for help in placement. OP didn't do the homework lol, sorry poster. Reading Smith's post again I'll bet with on follow through, hence the Good luck

WOW, LOL, I came here to learn, perhaps i may have bitten off a little much. However, I will find our way. There is alot of intellegent and great people here. Perhaps i did not do my home work thoroughly enough. Its my mistake. Even when i tried to read my old shepherds Pedigree i was lost as i am now. I came here to get advice, Learn, and take what i can learn from you all and continue on my journey. I have read alot here and there. I have had several inboxes, for those i am greatfully thankful for. I guess now i play the waiting game and continue to do more research and get ready for oner hell of a ride.
Thank you all. Even the critics, i am just as greatful for those too. some times thats what it takes to get a point across or make other questions in my little head coming up.
