I am looking for first pick of the litter Pup Showline dog , Only serius seller

by Penny on 22 March 2007 - 08:03

Who will choose the puppy Victor? You may be lucky, you may find some-one to let you have the "best" puppy from their litter in their opinion - but its rare, as that is what they are aiming at for themselves. Then there may be circumstances where they will look for a very genuine and special home for their "best" puppy for however they want to shape its future, but you will have to go through hoops with any genuine breeder to take their "best" puppy, all the same. You note I write the "best" puppy in colon form - thats because many of the worst puppies have become best and many best have become not so special after all... its a minefield, even for the experienced. Best of luck, let us know how you get on. REgards Mo - Mascani PS - any one that gives you a choice of the best puppy without reason from any litter - beware.

Penny is right. 1st Pick from a serious breeder? Not very likely. You have to be satisfied with wahat is on offer at the time, best puppy is definitelly NOT. Anyway, as Penny said, puppies are a crap shot so you shold (and I quote) "ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? So, do you Victor?" Good luck in your search.

Victor I don't think you will have too much trouble getting first pick of a litter. If you are a serious buyer and the breeder likes your intentions then you should have no trouble. I myself have done this in the past, breeders like selling to someone who they can trust will both take good care of the pup and who appreciates the quality of pup they are purchasing. If you plan to show/compete with the pup even better. You biggest challenge will be picking which pup is the best of the litter as what is best? At a 7-8 weeks it is hard to tell which one overall is best and sometimes the best conformation does not have the best drives, temperment and so on. Some males do not develop their prey drives until much later in life. I have seen a male who showed medium drives at best until he was almost a year old and then within a short period of time developed what would be considered by most a high prey drive, not extreme but very high. I would suggest you call and visit the kennels if possible. Good luck
