Do any of you out there ever feed canned salmon/jack mac/ tuna to your dogs? If so - do you rinse it first to get the salt and oil off - and for how long. I know there are much more important things out there to discuss - however we all know the importance of fish in our diets and would like to include it in my GSD's. Thank you in advance.

I give a can of tuna once in a great while as a special treat. You can't beat the fish oils and Omega 3s for a great coat.

I feed mackrel and salmon from cans. I just mix so much into their food, no rinsing. You want the oils left in for their coats.

I'll use a small can of tuna as a final article on the track once in awhile. Just pull off the lid and pour it out between the front legs once they've indicated it correctly. Talk about drive building! SS

Thanks you guys - the reason I asked about rinsing - is that it is loaded with salt - and I have always heard that salt is not good for our dogs - or is that false???????????????

I'm not sure about the salt content, but I feed my female at least 2 cans of sardines a week and I also use that as my last article when tracking-great reward. When she had her puppies, that was one of the only things that I could get her to eat after whelping.
