Zidane Vom Haus Sevens 9 year old son, Sabian, just got hip xrays for the first time. Just wanting everyone's opinion on how they look for being a 9 year old dog!

Attached you will find Sabian's xrays of his lateral lumbar spine, lateral hips (pet laying on its side)and VD hips (pet laying on their back)

There were no abnormalities found on any of these films,

The VD view the dog is not positioned correctly.. The knees are not rotated in far enough. But for a 9 year old dog, from what I can see the hips look ok. Good luck with your boy and hope he lives many more happy years with you!👍

I have an almost 10 year old German Shepherd and she as well is still going strong.

Just wanted to add... It is SHEPHERD not Shepard.

The positioning on the hip x-ray is awful & not diagnostic for certification or getting a true idea of what the hips are. The dog is twisted on his spine instead of straight up like he should be (which generally makes one hip look more sublaxed & the other tighter than a correctly positioned xray); the legs should be parallel with the knee caps "bullseyed" & showing on the x-ray. OFA's website has some examples of proper positioning on it or you could look at some of the old hip threads on here.

You can't tell if the heads/neck are remodeling from this xray due to positioning. You do know that he isn't severely dysplastic.

I would have the vet retake it at no charge if you really want to know what the hips look like (if you're thinking of breeding for ex) or if they don't know how to do proper positioning find another vet to do them.

You can tell that there is no remodeling of the femoral heads -- this dog is 9, if there was remodeling, it wouldn't be subtle or hard to tell.

Dog looks in great shape -- congrats on your healthy boy!
