I know its an international SchH title with international rules. But can someone specifically tell me the difference. I've tried to look up the trial rules (on a non official website) and can't find any differences. Is there any? different heeling pattern, different order of excersises? etc. etc.? or is it really just the same, nothing different needed to know train for outside of SchH to enter for the IPO title.
Thanks,
Melanie

There are no longer any differences between IPO and Schutzhund, other than the titles. Used to be some slight differences in tracking article sizes, protection obedience rules - but no longer, as far as I can tell - the same.

That's right Molly...now there are no differences at all...As a matter of fact you can change the title if you'd like...I mean from Schutzhund to IPO...It doesn't make any difference any longer...

Melli,
By this time next year you're going to need 2-3 lines to list all Andy's titles! Keep up the good work, Lady.
We can offer the IPO for our June trial if you need it. I was thinking about it anyway.

The only difference between the IPO and the Schutzhund title is the scoring in the protection phase .
other then that same same
however the IPO-FH is 2 tracks and the average of the 2 makes up the total score.

The only difference I found was during phase B.
I'm not saying it's all going to be this way, but this happened to me during my IPO3. During the voraus exercise, the other handler had to 'pickup' his dog, and stay in that position. You were not allowed to heel back to the front of the field. You came to your dog, upon the signal of the judge had the dog sit, then you had to remain in the basic position during the other dog's send out. This was during a national competition with an FCI/PSK judge. It may or may not happen to you, and I know we all can't train for every situation, just throwing it out there so you're not as surprised as I was when it happened. Also as Pia mentioned the point allocation for the hold and guards are a bit different in IPO.
Just my experience,
Julie

yes Julie what you mentioned was the older IPO rules 2003 they had changed this also, as of 2003 the long down under distraction is the same as with Schutzhund.
I be competing at this years AWDF so even if the long down has not changed it should cause a problem with dogs after all handler is right there with them .

Thanks Pia. It was last year when I did this during the trial, so with the rules changing in 2003 that is interesting. My dog had no problems with this, just wanted to mention it. I wasn't worried about my dog, just the other dog on the field being sent out, and maybe thinking 'hey, who's over there?'. However it all worked out, and the dogs were fine.
