Does anyone know what could cause a reddish brown tinge in a black saddle? I just noticed out in the sunlight my boy has two pathes in the center of his rib cage higher up towards his spine this color. He is on RAW for 2.5 years of his life. Recently I have added some Canidae (getting lazy) and we did do a road trip that was drive until you drop for 3 days.During that time he ate mostly Satin Balls for convienience. He is a house dog and I am with my dogs about 24/7 and this has just turned up in a short amount of time. He seems healthy, active, and his coat is soft and shiny.

Trailrider, has the dog been in direct sunlight a lot? Often strong sunlight will fade the black to a dark brown, especially if the pigment is borderline in an area. I have seen this happen with dogs that normally appear to have a strong black pigment.

Bob-O no he hasn't. He is inside the house with me (all dogs are) most of the time unless we are out for a walk, feeding horses, etc. Coming out of winter also (Montana) we haven't had alot of sun. I did know black horses can bleach out with the sun so figured dogs too but that is not the case.
