bun bun

by bun bun on 29 February 2016 - 20:02

Hi,

I have been doing a lot of research on importing a puppy from Germany to Denver USA. I do realize i need to get the confinement agreement to receive the pup before 4months of age. When should i apply for that? The puppy will not be 8 weeks until the middle of April. The pup will be shipped through a pet shipping company in Amsterdam or petair in Frankfurt.
Is there a permit to import that i need to apply for? This there anything else that i need to do on my end? The breeder is taking care of the CVI, transport to the shipping company.

Thank you

Susan

I have a form saved that I filled out for importing a puppy before four months. I can send it to your email if you want.

I've also read that it won't be approved if the puppy isn't being brought over as a personal pet or for scientific research, so if it's for a potential breeding prospect, it won't be approved.

The pup also needs to come from somewhere that is considered rabies free by the CDC.

I haven't actually imported a puppy, so I don't know all the ins and outs. The form I have needs a flight number.

I just searched Google and found something quite helpful. I'll PM you.

If you could send me the form that would be great! Thank you

Germany is considered Rabies Free and yes she will be a personal pet so all good:)

I emailed the CDC directly, and I also sent you a helpful PM. They said that as long as the animal is coming from a rabies free country that's on their list, no additional permissions were required from them. They did tell me to also email USDA/APHIS and the CBP to see if anything additional was necessary through them.

CDCanimalimport@cdc.gov is the email.

Unless something changed recently, there was no form needed to "approve" a pet being imported into Denver from Germany.

Breeder in Germany needs to have certain things in order before they drop off at PetAir, like the pet passport has to be current.

In the passport was the health certificate/vaccine records/chip info.

They do now need to be 12 weeks old and have rabies, I believe.. no more 8 weeks allowed.

Since you are picking up in Denver, no need for the "agent", all you have to do is go to customs beforehand and sign some stuff/get cleared before going over to Lufthansa cargo building. I think I needed ID and also there was a fee paid to something, around $45.

Contact Vineet at PetAir, he speaks good english and will tell you what needs to be done.

I havent shipped with the other carrier, but I imagine its similar. Customs is behind the Village Inn rest off of Tower Rd and Pena. 2nd floor.

I used to use PetAir, but never again. Vineet and PetAir screwed up royally and I would never trust them with another dog. I used Gradlyn last time and it was PERFECT.

The last pups were 10 weeks; I think they can still come in at 10 weeks from Germany, not needing a rabies shot because Germany is considered "rabies-free." It has been a while, so do double check.

I messaged the CDC directly a few days ago, and they said nothing additional was required since the puppy was being shipped from a rabies free country.
