The 5300 year old mummy Otzi found in the Alps in 1991 had Lyme ... our smart doctors first diagnosed Lyme in 1975 and identified the bacteria in 1981.  Lyme has also been found in mosquitoes in 15k old amber.  Makes one wonder what other diseases are being overlooked or misdiagnosed by vets and docs.  Lyme was once called juvenile arthritis and something crazy people get until our brilliant medical industry " discovered " the disease the way Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas????

Makes you wonder about overlooked or misdiagnosed diseases, but makes me believe in science, and the never ending will of intelligent humans to carry on research.
You and me are just a grain of sand within the human timeframe - a lot of research and new medical development will be made after you and I are long gone.
I am pretty sure within some decades humans won´t be afraid of some life threatening diseases any longer, simply because some intelligent human will find the answer, and the help.

Evolution, development, science

If a tree in the forest falls and a doctor or veterinarian isn't there to hear it then their is no noise??? Is that the idea then?? Lyme disease has existed for at least 5300 years in humans and animals but doctors did not know it so they "discovered Lyme" in 1975?? Even after Lyme was named and the bacteria causing it identified in 1981 dog owners were told that Lyme did not occur in dogs until in 1985 the bacteria was found in sick dogs but even then some veterinarians insisted the disease did not occur in dogs. Doctors and veterinarians are egotistical and self worshipers .. If you or your animals are sick it is not wise to trust a veterinarian or doctor to have the correct answers. Doctors and veterinarians are either business owners or employees of a business ( hospital ) and they generally do what is in their own best interest. Doctors and veterinarians own stock, get incentives and receive cash payments from Pharma and other companies which are not in the best interest of their patients ... just their own. Be very careful trusting that your doctor or veterinarian is either competent or impartial in choosing you or your animals best care options.

History

Lyme disease (borreliosis) is an infectious, tick-borne disease first recognized in dogs in 1985. It is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, a type of bacteria called a 'spirochete.' The common deer tick Ixodes scapularis (formerly called Ixodes dammini) is the primary carrier of B. burgdorferi in the Northeast and upper Midwest. The tick Ixodes pacificus is the primary carrier in the western United States.

Although Lyme disease was first diagnosed in Connecticut in 1975, there is evidence that it has existed in wildlife for many years. Tissue samples taken from a white-footed mouse in Massachusetts in 1894 have now undergone DNA testing that show the mouse was infected with Lyme disease.
