I was browsing thru some of the top dogs from top kennels Kor reports and couldn't help but to see that in the report that some of the dogs are indeed Large. My question is. Why are these dogs given KKL1, a breed title thats suppose to stand for recommended for breeding Our breed is suppose to be medium size, Not large.

cause breeding is something else then giving comments on the breed and having no experience in this

In the reports which are breed survey reports a dog is rated large if he stands to be 64.5 -65 cm . 65 cm is still acceptable .

what do you think about a very good build male with excelent hips and superb character, a bloodline with a father 63cm and a mother 58 cm , so a dog who can come close to the VA and maybe a competitor on a LGA who is a 1/2 cm too big , would you kick him out the KKL?
next dog is 63cm with a bad weak character, weak ears, and hips a3
would you give this one KKL? scratch scratch ,,,,

IMO this is an error in translation. The German word 'gross' which appears on the breed survey should be translated as 'tall', not 'large'.

Large is still within standard. The dog is 65 cm.
Tolerance is +- 1cm.
GSD is MEDIUM SIZE BREED as oposed to St. Bernards who are LARGE.

Clearwater2,
A VA status should be given to an animal that should represent the breed standard. That means that the dog MUST have Full grips with very good drives that shows no nerve and have very good temperament with no issues (Clear headed). The dog should have NO signs of a roach back or any signs of any faults. Why should a LARGE dog take the VA status? I don't care how gorgeous the dog is.. The standard is the standard. I've just notice after searching thru a popular Kennel here in the USA.. I see nothing but over medium to LARGE males for stud. It's hard finding a male that is medium size.
If people want a LARGE shepherd... get a shiloh shepherd :D

Maybe a "large" dog would go VA because a slight amount of size needs to be added back in to keep from letting the shepherd get too small. Look at the dogs in Guam, they have to import larger dogs to add to their breeding stock to improve on size.

right you are guys...you may be Large in built(structure)... but still a medium sized breed due to its LOW Stationed body proportion... small - medium - high breeds, only refer to wither height... but the KKL considering our dogs being Large compared to TYPEY medium specimen...
I'm still wondering why out of parents both medium in size you can produce a large male with outstanding quality (recessive) compared to siblings...probably just the GROWTH RATE.. switching over to low protein once the ears are up ... still at 4mos// all siblings with teeth sprouts and ears pricked // my pick is a dainty as a BEAR.. need to exercise the poor fellow.
