Many dogs are great. But truly what makes a dog outstanding? It is like what makes a dog have presence that all recognize. Like if 500 people are in a room and Bill Clinton walks in, even if he was never president he would immediately stand out. What separates the average, good and great dogs from those that are outstanding?

Unless there are any ladies in that room, then at least one thing would stand out!

LOL I was going to say he would stand out to me because I think he is a very unatractive man with a weird nose and hair. Wagonmaster hit the nail though, too funny. I think what makes a dog outstanding is his ability to work well concistantly, not just at a few major trials, then in the end pass that on to his or her pups. I like to see a strong dog, who's line is strong and true, who passes himslef off on almost every pup he turns out. My personal opinion leans twords real dogs not just a points dogs.

4pck, I think he was W.C. Fields in a former life.

I watch the Westminster type dog shows on TV sometimes and even the announcer that is the expert, not the one that's a drone, will say soemthing like, " This dog just really has that something special".  And can't define that charisma".

I know a horse like that when I see it. Just loves what he's doing and has a lot of expression when he does it. Maybe that plays into dogs, as well.
