Just curious as to what you all feed your GSD's. Cana was on best breed, and we're looking for something different. (I do not like the smell of her on that food and her poo was always runny.) We kept her on the food for awhile longer thinking maybe she was just stressed from the long car ride/new environment. After a few days we even gave her a lovely "doggie spa" bath. LOL Unfortunately it didn't work. So our vet said try a commercial brand puppy chow and see what happens with the symptoms, then we'd talk about other feeding options. So we changed her food, and the stinky smell is gone and her poo is normal. I have heard a lot of you mention that you don't think the commercial brand puppy chows for large dogs are good enough nutrition for a GSD. I have a lot of respect for your opinions, so please, give me some suggestions I can talk about with my vet thursday. I'm even open to cooking her meals for her if it's healthier. :) Thanks for reading this.

Solid Gold kibble with cooked hamburger/veggies/oatmeal and some cottage cheese or yogurt. Also poached egg every 4 days. He looks beautiful and is healthy.

All of my dogs eat BARF, Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods. However, if I were going to feed a kibble, I like the Merrick Wilderness Blend. I think Merrick is a good quality kibble. On occasion, when we travel I feed my dogs Merrick cans, especially the Working Dog Stew.

I feed Canidae dry dog food, http://www.canidae.com/ I put a teaspoon of wheat germ oil in with the food. This has worked well for my Shepherds and 1 weiner dog...

I feed raw ground up in the morning so I can mix in salmon oil, vitamins and the occasional egg. For the evening meal I feed whole raw meaty bones (chicken necks and backs, or venison or lamb or beef).

I tried Solid Gold and none of my dogs could maintain their weight. 5 GSD's are on Canidae. They are all doing very well, look great and have great energy. I have a 16 month old GSD that was not gaining weight on the Canidae. I put him on "raw instint" 50 pct protein, 22 pct fat. He is doing super. I then picked up the Innova Evo, about the same as raw instinct. He likes it and so far great results. My vet suggested that I switch to lower protein and fat food once he is 2 years old. What do vets know, lol. Kyle

Try; Timberwolf Organics, Royal Canin or Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance, all are premium high quality dog foods...Then there is Chicken Soup for dogs or BARF... Read the ingredients on some of those inexpensive commercial brands of dog food and then think about what you want to feed your GSDs... Just some foods for thought from someone who listened to those on this site that know better than I did... ROB
