http://oestek9.wix.com/treinocanino (soon also in English)

This is a project that we have been working on for some time now, Flávio as some of you know was doing training (a course provided by FCC (http://www.formatorecinofilocertificato.it/) in Portugal, that was created here to work with the DIA Academy and NATO in Portugal, and all over the world), he is one of the about 10 people in Portugal that have been able to graduate from this training, some will leave to England to help out with another Portuguese trainer that is already doing the same over there, others will be apart of the Portuguese team in Lisbon and Porto. (I'm really happy for him)

While this does not happen (we all know how this red tape stuff is...) me and Flávio decided to open a dog club where we live, to start will do some beginners obedience classes, some a little more advanced classes, a dog park, puppy classes, socialization, play dates, etc. and soon want to start some beginners protection work, but mostly we want to create a place were dog lovers in general can chill out and do some work with the dogs. We are pretty new in all this and do not have the idea that we know even half of everything we must to, so we will always keep learning and working on ourselves, mean while, we will try to help those that want our help. Our own dogs are everithing but picture perfect so we know we have a lot to learn and have no shame in admiting it.

We already have a place, just finishing fencing it all (though we were done but: put Mic off leash in a country area = Mic at the other side of the fence... so had to go back and redo-it), and are starting to build some obstacles, mostly with pvc and wood, all built by ourselves and friends.

Just read here the other day about the different sleeves and tugs for different types of dogs, and started to wonder about what type off stuff should we get for the club? I mean, we don't want do just this or just that type of dogs, we are already working with 2 persons (just open!!! we are so happy about it) one is a male GSD, 2 years, spend his like "protecting" a warehouse, traped to a little dog house all his live, so a lot of accumulated energy, no connects to the owner, but she is lucky that he is a sweetheart (all over the place, but not a drop of aggression in his bones), and a Labrador cross male with about 5 or 6 years, also abandoned and in recovery. So we can buy material to work only this or that type of dog... And are working in a REALLY tight budget... Any advice on what is that thing that we have to have and that will work well on different dogs?

Any advice for this newbies? Thank a lot for the suport, are open to sugestions, and you are all welcome at the club ;)

* Update on Becky, Isa and Mic:

Becky is still strugling with the allergies, bue is better, and a very happy dog, just bougth a Extreme Kong and she love it! goes everywhere with the toy...

Isa is in heat and at the top of her bipolarity, totaly in love with Flavio and Mic, an even more mean to Becky than usually (don't get fooled by her sweet look)...

As promissed here is a recent photo o Mic, he is so prety! Is behaving really well and being such a good boy =) totaly in love with Isa...

"Houdini" looks good!
Just took a look at your website ( sorry, I am not able to read your language ).
You are the "ajudante" ? Wink Smile

I don´t know the requirements of your country, but over here you need a club insurance, and a helper insurance to be on the safe side. The dogs should be insured by their owners, too, and at least vaccinated against rabies.

Right now you should be fine with some agility stuff, a flirtpole, biteroll, puppy- and adult sleeve, at least trousers for the helper, some dumbells, a hurdle, an A-frame, and cold drinks...

Good luck!

joanro yes Mic (also known as Houdini) is the one that disappeared on me a couple of weeks (as it been months already? don't really know lol) and tried it again as we were trying out the fences at the club field... We were using what we call sheep fence, and as soon as we released Houdini (ups Mic) he appears on the other side of the fence showing why it's call sheep fence and not dog fence... bringing him to the right side again was a bit harder as he was stepping is foot on not showing us how he done his magic trick, a good magician never tells right?

Susie thanks! yes I'm the one that says "Ajudante" (it means helper, what means I do all the hard work back stage) in the photo I'm with a cute dog at the shelter we use to volunteer.
Mila was Flávio first dog, a pointer cross with about 17 kg, adopted when she was about 7 or 8 years old, all black, blind as a bat (cataracts), sweetest dog ever but surely one of the most independent one we ever had... The other guys you all know, except "os outros" the cats, Wally brindle cat, and Ninja the black one.
The web site is all made by me, so it's still a working progress, and it will have an English version, as soon as I have 2 seconds left in a day...

Thank you both!
